Oak wasn't the only trees we brought home from the Plantation job. We had several hickories too. They were cut in June '22, so it was really time to get them processed. Started bucking the logs Monday. The borers had eaten under the bark, Which made it easy to slide most of the bark off Finished sorting the hickory from the ash and beech in the pile that afternoon. Tuesday morning, ran a couple more tanks of gas thru the XS4910, finishing the log pile. Wednesday was splitter day... 1st load on Blue Samson Split a nice pile and got that stacked... Split another pile almost that big and finished the row...almost a 1/2 cord from the Plantation, in this row0+8 Had this leftover, good start on the next row Picked out 7 rounds without knots, local woodworker wants to make some small handles Rounds pile is way smaller...
Got the leftover pile stacked first... Then split and stacked the rest of the rounds. Had a few pieces from the church hickory mixed in. Got almost a cord of hickory from the Plantation We have a small maple log and a couple beech logs from there to process, then plenty of oak.
Got back on the oak processing, worked a couple evenings this week. 3 long logs came from Plantation job... Bucked and heading for Blue Samson We had 2 29" dia rounds from another job mixed in with this, still close to 1/3 cord from the 3 logs
Don't usually bother me to much, Miz Carol seems to attract them...lol... I try to keep the lights far enough away, but sometimes they get around
After work Friday evening, set up the outside lights, moved 8 oak logs over to be bucked. Got about 3/4's done, had to start splitting to make room... Made a dent in the pile, still have some left for tonight... Stacked what I got split so far. Done by 10:30PM... Long way to go. I measured that shed again, it will hold 4.25 cords...
We cleaned out the left side of the Calico shed, going to use it for more oak storage. Got lights and Blue Samson set up, moved about 8 logs over to process... Getting that 1st row started Almost 8' tall... Moved another big pile of logs for processing... Miz Carol used the Echo 2511T w/ 18" Acc-u-mark gauge to mark logs for me Used the XS4910 & XS362 to buck logs Worked on the pile Monday evening, made some nice splits Got almost a row and half stacked, should be close to 2 rows when that pile is stacked Shed holds 9 rows of 18" splits, about 4.25 cords...
We got that pile stacked Tues evening, almost made the 2nd row We then split the rest of the rounds next to the splitter above...got those splits stacked. Finished 2nd row and started 3rd. That's 1+ cords in the shed now. Rolled some bigger rounds from the log pile over to feed Samson maybe tonight...
