Hello again- I have access to a bunch of free wood that I am cutting and splitting. I don't know what they are but like some of y'all said, it all falls under firewood. If I could ask for your help in identifying it again, I would be grateful.

picture 2 looks like Ailanthis commonly called tree of Heaven. Invasive weed tree. Low btu wood. Splits easily. Not 100% on this.

picture 1 looks like horse chestnut. (log with the fresh cut end) Hard to split and lower btu wood.

picture 3 hard to tell, but maybe some sort of softwood??? Common for their bark to get covered with lichens like that.

picture 4 mostly some variety of red oak.

picture 5 got me on this one. Some type of hardwood?

    Firewood Firewood Firewood!

Picture 3... the ring of dark dots on the cut remind me of a lot of the hickory we have here. I don't really recall seeing that in any other wood.

I assume this is at a dump site...? Do you know if a lot of this wood comes from a town/city area? If so, there could be trees that are non-native, ornamental etc...

Hi Eckie- it is a dump site. Wood is coming in from the city and also the country since a lot of construction is happening. The tree in Picture 3 has a lot of purplish dots when cut. I have come across it before but never tried to identify it until now. I split and stack everything. I have more than I can burn in the next two years so I am going to sell wood but wanted to advertise it correctly. Appreciate you looking at it.

Picture 2 looks like Mimosa aka Silk Tree. Somewhat similar to tree of heaven but the wood is darker. I had some 3 years ago; it burned hot and left a lot of light fluffy ash behind. I would take it again in small quantities. I agree with the horse chestnut and that picture 4 looks like pin oak.

The smooth bark almost looks like beech, and the rough sections beech bark disease, but the color of the wood rules that out. If those small leaves are any indication then I’m really stumped. Nothing I’ve seen around here.

Picture 3 is hickory. Picture 4 is red oak. Picture could be sycamore or Hackberry. 1&2 no idea.
