I have never owned a trailer. Should I?

Thus far all of my wood-hauling has been done in the back of a couple of old station wagons with the rear seat folded down. I don't mind the small capacity (a fifth of a cord, at most) but loading and unloading is awkward, and of course it's hard on the interior. Short of a truck (which ain't happening), the obvious solution would be a small trailer. I just found this 4 x 6 on CL, still available for $150.

Is this a good idea? Storage might be a problem. Would it be feasible to stand such a trailer up on its back end, or is likely to be too heavy for that?

A trailer sure comes in handy for not only firewood, but other projects from time to time. At that price you could use it for many years and probably not lose any money. Storage is an issue, as well as needing a hitch on your vehicles and maybe a license plate. If you can figure out the storage, I would say it will save you money over the long haul.

My car (an AWD Subaru) already has the hitch and wiring. Registration in PA is $6/year. I think storage is really the only significant issue.

At that price I would find a way to store it. My trailer has paid for itself many times over.

Does it have a clear PA title? If so, grab it and don't look back. If you find a great deal on a good trailer that has no title, I can help you out. I have a spare PA trailer title and VIN plate. And yes you can get away with storing it upright. We did so with an old 4x8 trailer. Just prop it up with a board so it doesn't fall over.

I've already heard back from the seller that it's still available (the ad's been up for a week), and am waiting to hear when he's available. I don't think he's hard-wired to his smart phone.

Ad says good title and registration. Before I looked into this, I didn't even realize trailers had titles. I'm such a noob.

Very useful, I pull one behind my Subie, similar size. I don't think you'll be hauling more than 1/3 cord at a time in the Subie. I use my truck for hauling wood, but have been tempted to ditch the old girl and just get smaller loads with one less vehicle.

If the rubber is good, that's a great price!

Oh, can't tell but check the rating on tires & axles of course! I liked my trailer because it has 14" wheels even on the smaller frame.

Grab it, I have had numerous trailers over the years (ranging from 4' x 6' up to a 28' dual tandem gooseneck) and find them indispensable. You can leave them loaded without tying up a vehicle and they cost less to license and insure.

Well, this is seeming fairly unanimous.

This is the other pic from the ad. To my unpracticed eye, it looks pretty clean.

At twice the price that is a heck of a deal. I would gal bit in a heartbeat if it isn't rusted or in need of major repair. You can use it over and over, with car after car.

After hearing all of this, now I kinda can't understand why it's still available!

I found the ad. Here's why it's still available: GVWR 1,130. Subtract from that the weight of the trailer itself and you've got a very low usable weight capacity which translates into not very much firewood to overload it.

Ah, I was wondering about that but didn't understand how to interpret it. That does seem like surprisingly low capacity. What would a trailer like that have been intended for?

Try it , if you don't like, re-sell it for $200

Whats your car towing rated for? You Can always throw a different axle under it for minimal, considering the price of this trailer, later if you want. But that low GVWR might be a mood point if it matches your cars towing weight. Just food for thought.
