Found out this morning (called them) that they offer both 15 degree and 30 degree CBN Raker whels though they don't list them on their website. If you want one you have to call them and talk to Jackie. Just ordered a 30 degree CBN wheel.

Would tilting the grinder head for the rakers accomplish the same thing? With the flat wheel you could set at whatever angle you choose and not be stuck with 15 or 30 degrees?

    Just thinking out loud.

It will but why bother when you can buy a 30 degree CBN wheel.

Works great, already have the head tilted for the cutters. Unless multiple grinders are set up.

I have a second grinder already setup , a flat CBN wheel and can't see why if I have that why I would spend money on a 30 degree wheel when I can tilt the head and use what I have.
I think that is good reason why not to buy another.

I have a Stihl HOS grinder and been thinking of getting CBN wheel for it. It’s the older version of a USG but it works and I’m cheap.
It doesn’t have the tilting head feature. It’s Locked at 60°.
For me that would work to have a 30° wheel & a wheel to do .325/3/8”. But that would be expensive for me and my 5-10 cord scrounging per year needs. I think I mentioned I’m cheap.

I’m trying to figure out why a 15° wheel edge though.
Because the rakers tilt “back” slightly I’m assuming?

That should keep you busy for a while.

So what do you think you will do?
Would you grind each chain individually to clean them up and then do rakers accordingly or would you do all of them to the same tooth height and then all the rakers the same.

I guess if I was doing only a couple at a time I would do each chain on it's own but that many would probably would get quite time consuming that way.

Either way thats a lot of chains.

Yes, we normally grind rakers at 10° angle, about the angle a file and single gauge does

Not sure yet as I'm in the middle of grinding chipper knives presently. I have about 40 of those to grind first. Don't like doing them but no one else around here does it so I guess I get nominated. I smell another machine coming, just for the Rakers. More where those came from as those are just from one arborist. Retirement is grand...not. Need to up my lineal inch charges to adjust for the aggrivation.

Have another 20 or so out of a Morbark that needs ground too. The ones I'm doing presently are out of a Bandit. Only thing I don't grind are cone head chipper knives. Not too many of them around here. Glad of that. Been asked in the past and I tell them no. Send them back to the manufacturer and pay dearly.

The Morbark knifes are out of a commercial, who tree chipper.

Taking a break from grinding presently. I'm sending a Wearsharp tooth to Diamond Wheel to see if they will make a diamond wheel and arbor assembly to rersharpen them. Dang things are expensive but can be resharpened at least 3 times and Green Manufacturing won't resharpen them, they will only sell you new teeth.

All I can say is, I'm glad I'm not in the tree cutting / trimming business. Besides, I'm afraid of heights. On the ground, no issue, erect, big issue.

Shop is getting a bit crowded, with 3 engine lathes, 2 surface grinders, various welders, plasma cutter and CNC plasma table plus 2 large compressors, I may have to add on again. Already 40 x 40. My wife just loves the electric bill...not.
