Funny thing. I was tightening the bar oil cap with a slight tweak of the scrench and bam. The cap fell apart, and the scrench pushed the center of it into the oil reservoir. I drained it and fished the plastic out. New one should be in on Wednesday.
Yep that was the 029 super duper. I kind of knew the cap was on its last legs since the plastic felt like it was getting brittle. I'm just surprised Stihl designed the cap as a 2 piece assembly rather than one molded plastic component. Job security I suppose.
I don't understand the hate. Only trouble I've had out of three Stihl saws is one had the thether break. It was years ago and was several years old by then.
Not really hate but maybe a little over engineered sort of thing. I have had it where they didn't close properly and that leads to a fuel spill on your shoes. Operator error but I will never admit that.
My OCD won't let that happen. Maybe wear them out from double checking though. The only saw I had leak on me was a Makita that I filled, put the gas cap on and proceeded to drool bar oil all over my leg, shoe and 32' of garage floor. Now its burned into ma brain to recheck.
Its burned into mine too but it still happens to me on occasion. BTW...i didnt see the 241 in any of the GTG pics. Did it get used? Gotta keep the hours low for me!
I'm having shoulder surgery in a month. I didn't bring anything to cut with. I actually gave away and sold the two I did bring. One was for oil testing the other was show and tell. I came home with another for a future project. Below is the one I sold to amateur cutter https://photos.app.goo.gl/8Ak5pEZshRS26XK6A
Steere BMF170. Ported, stacked, filtered and muff modded. Plus MS 250 Walbro carbed. PAPeggy loves her new toy. Hand splitting..... I only keep wood 8" and under fir camp fires only. I fell in the snow two years ago and broke my fall with my left arm. It partially tore a bicep tendon away from shoulder joint. I've delt with it ling enough.
Tell the doctor to be careful near your humerous. Dont want you losing your sense of it. Best of luck with the surgery and hope all goes well.
A friend found this 311 along the interstate In a Stihl box I went through it and dumped the fuel cleaned the carb and filter and tuned it. My 1984 266 walked all over it much lighter and more powerful than the Stihl.
I have white hot hatred for flippy caps You have no idea how aggravating those wore out caps are when they pop out of running saws And fuel or oil goes flying Famously some forest services banned them. My elderly neighbor wore out three on a ms250 so I got him a 025 with screw on caps I'm not the only one who doesn't like them.
