Official Photo Gallery Submission Thread

@Stinny, did you make everything you submitted? If so you are very talented! I'm starting to get jealous again

 

Long as you're not hatin'... Yup made em all... the crane started with a cheap pickup loader boom that I retro'd for what I wanted. Couldn't have made that part of it from scratch for the money. I still have to tie up the elec on it. The dump trailer isn't finished yet either (only been 12 years so far ) I have the hydraulic pump left from an old small crane that I still need to install along with a small ram & control. The claw was finished (also 12 years old) a couple months back when I painted it. The skis are from an ultralight... I made all the pieces and tacked them together, then had a cert welder mig them. They're made of aircraft 4130 chromoly tubing. That's why they're strong enough to put really heavy logs on em.

I'd be a lot happier with the stuff I've done if I'd just finish them. I like flubbin' with all of it tho, and maybe I don't really want them to be finished. Dunno.
I know I've gotten a second wind from this forum, that's for sure. Makes it a whole lot more fun... ... fightin' gravity.

 

so where did you get the pulley deal you hooked up on the boom?

I made it using Wichard pulleys that I had. As I've been using the boom btw, it's occured to me that the 3-1 pulley set-up with a winch, could also easily be done using any large tree with a large branch in the right spot (directly over their splitter). Winch would be at the bottom, ropes would be vertical up the tree, with one extra pulley out on the branch. The higher the better, as it then gives you more usable ground area to take advantage of the lift and/or dragging of a big round. If you had a branch up at 30', you'd have quite a rig as the 3-1 would give you around a 80'-90' lift line, to get out away from the splitter, to grab 200-300 lb rounds. Could have a wireless remote to op the winch. Works well. You would have to be careful (I am too) to be out of the way when lifting with tongs, as you might shoot them all the way to Maine if they let go...

I'd be glad to help anyone who might want to do this.
