I've been watching some videos on this little m18 hatchet and finally pulled the trigger on one. It's impressive for it's size and battery life isn't too shabby even with a 5.0ah battery. Even with the bar buried in a 10" red oak it just keeps spitting chips.
Those are the videos I've been watching. I can't believe the amount of cuts he gets out of it with an 8.0ah battery! I also like how he swapped to a 12" stihl bar. Only downside to the swap was having to buy two of the hatchet specific chains to make one 12" chain
When he first showed it, I thought he was setting it up as a joke, but he wasn't. The thing is just a beast. I'm going to get one next time I'm at the lumber yard.
I got one for Christmas. Have not yet tried it out. These were not even on the radar when I purchased the Makita 18v for killing vines.
I got one a year or so ago, super handy to have when doing chipper work for the pieces that don’t want to fit.
If I were vested in red batteries, I'd have one. I could use it for trimming my tree's while up the ladder. I've been wanting the yellow version but I'm not sold yet. I've been using my pole saw to date, which can be a pain. This tree is rooted in an area that stays very swampy so I'm afraid of uprooting in high winds so I plan to keep it low. Stupid name IMO though.
I spotted one in the store last weekend while I was purchasing a grease gun but didn’t pay it much attention. So they have their own special chain???
It's a standard 3/8 x .043 chain but it has cutters every link and they're $25 for an 8" chain . From what I've seen, it doesn't like to run a standard chain because of the torque it has. In the videos I watched the guy did get it to cut better with a standard chain by filing the rakers way down.
It would probably be very hard to use with standard chain when cutting small stuff because it would want to vibrate and bounce. Full house chain acts more like a fine tooth saw than a chain.
