I am excited big time but I need yalls thoughts. It came with a 18 3/16 set up. I want a 16 inch bar 3/8. The other option is 16" 3/16. I have read a little and I think stihl engineers think the 3/16 low profile chain is best for the saw. What do yall think?

The big reason I want to go 16" is to gap it from my 362cm 20' bar. If Im going to cut any thing that takes a 18" bar I will use the 362 and smaller 261 ect...

Full size 3/8" is what I'd run. There's low profile 3/8" or .325" is your other choices.

Cool! Finally got her.... Go run her the way she is.... Then when you get a chance stop in at the Stihl dealer and get the 16" bar / 3/8 chain setup....

Pull the b/c off the 362 and run it.

    I like .325 on the 261 the best.......your mileage may vary. :)

Randy is right on with that statement. . :)

I ran mine with the 16" 3/8" and I am gonna run it for everyday use. But...

For a GTG, I am going to buy a 16" bar in the 3/8" low pro stuff that MasterMech ran. That stuff cuts like lightning! !

But the .325 falls right in between those choices. It will cut faster than 3/8" and be smoother. If I was really thinking, I would have just got the .325 and had one set up. But because I like 3/8" and I already had a bar and chain? I had to try it. I know to hang in a race, I am going to need something narrower (.3/8" Picco or .325).

3/8" is usually the winner racing if you have the power to pull it. Those 261 have plenty of power to pull 3/8".

But the yellow dot 3/8" bars have more girth.....much more important:D

Dont think there is a 3/16 size chain..bit why did you not get it ordered with the 16"? Was this saw brand new from mastermind? Did he ask what bar you wanted. Not jumping on you but just questions I would ask?

I too would running full 3/8 chain so you can use it on all saws if you have that loop size across the board.

Might be my fault......I was slammed. I picked up several 261 and just got the standard 18" .325 RS.
