So 6-7 years ago, when I milled the big ash tree in my yard, I stickered and stacked it at the end of my firewood stack, which is about 65’ long. I have so much chestnut oak and honey locust in staging (that needs split) but no good place to put splits. Decided to move the planks and extend the row. What a mess. Couple old pool covers disintegrated over the years. And after. From the garage back I used to stack 4 splits wide. That’s going to change as I plan to make a roof and store planks back there. Sure does look different after so many years with the planks in that spot. Was kind of an eye sore. ^ that was Thursday. FF to today; In order to extend, I need more plastic pallets. Having given my son a couple, I have to use from where I was 4 wide. So I have to move the red oak first. 3 trailer loads in the basement this morning before lunch. Break time, someone is tuckered out.
The dog looks tired too Nice job! I’m probably not alone here…it’s a pain but it’s so satisfying to clean up stacks!
Great pictures and nice work organizing the hoard, Jason. Looks like a picturesque setting too. I love that old barn up on the hill there.
Got all the wood moved and pallets laid down. This would give me an additional 23’. And plenty of room for a little roof and racks to store milled lumber. I already have the old tin for it.
Stole some of the shelter logic real estate for the slabs, temporarily. Burn baby burn. I think I have one more old wood pallet left. Won’t miss them one bit.
I have more than that here needing split. I used the FHC cordwood calc and it said if stacked like I normally do, 4.5 cord. But once I start splitting, I can use the pallets I have under that to go further. Potentially down to the oak tree. You can see it in this old pic. I'm just really wanting to get as much of the chestnut oak as possible. It's getting punky at the tops so times ah waistin'... It is for the most part. There is still one area of my yard I cannot take the riding mower. Another day or 2 and I'm betting it's good to go.
Moved all the driveway splits to the new pallets. Gorgeous day here!! Didn’t take long.. Soon to be 86’ long and beyond! And all cleaned up. Now I have more staging room.
I took a vacation day today and was hoping to split some. Splitter is still at my sons place and he's not finished yet, plus my hands are starting to swell up so I think it's in my best interest to go easy. No wood'n. Might get a couple trailer loads of mulch for the flower beds. Might go for a motorcycle ride.
Ill cut a load of dead BL in your honor today then! BL harvest ending soon. Enjoy the day and ride safe.
I wonder if Cash Larue noticed how green your grass is? I did. No time to cut a load of BL today Jason. Probably tomorrow.
Ha ha. You know me too well! Of course I noticed! I always love seeing the early spring green grass pics that you guys always post. We always seem to be about 2 months behind you all.
I usually go up about 6’ with 2 wide splits and then stack one row on top of the 2 for another couple inches. Almost 8’ high. I stand in the trailer when it gets too high from the ground.
