Take your time cutting after Storm Sage! Southern VT got hit hard by this one. We had around two feet at our place. Our neighbor behind us (slightly higher in elevation) 42.5” of snow. Just insane! Power was out since early Tuesday morning. Luckily, temps were moderate, so no issues with pipes. Got the generator hooked up to the direct vent heater: It’s deep! Big shout out to the power company and this crew from Canada who had things all set by 6:45PM. We had a lot of branches down! And many will be able to be used as firewood. The smaller stuff will go into the firepit. I spent a good amount of time cutting. Even cut some sizable Oak! Our ski chair: Got just about all thatwas visible cut up: Went across the way and cut up a whole bunch of branches and a birch tree for our neighbors who came up this morning. Just as I finished, they told me to take all the wood and season it. They have a pellet stove and have no use for it. I’ll get pics of that eventually. It’s a great community up here! Our neighbor texted us daily with updates. Due to downed lines, the town plow could not get down the road. So two neighbors cleared the road with a tractor and a plow on a pickup.
Mount Snow. They sold chairs off the Grand Summit Express a few years back. Technically, these are chairs from the original high speed installed back in the day; the Yankee Clipper. They are Yan chairs. Original color was battleship gray.
I slept good last night! Given the snow, there’s probably more branches buried. I’m sure I’ll discover more as this snow melts.
It really is Dennis! I love snow. But stuff stuff is not easy to work in. Our neighbors across the way lost a pine and a birch. And too many large branches to count.
Keep an eye out for resorts that replace chairs, but not the entire lift. That’s how we ended up with our chair. Also, Stratton replaced their gondola cabins a few years back and sold a number of those off too.
100%! It makes such a difference. We all look out for each other up there. Sometimes, you have to get things done for yourself when the town or contractors can’t help.
We took some time today to sort and stack what I cut yesterday. Some of this will make it’s way to the stove. I’ll either make kindling out of the pine or use it in the firepit. Felt good to spend time outside with my wife today. Ironically, it was a lot colder than yesterday and the snow firmed up overnight. Windy too!
Brought the chipper up from the flatlands today. For the age, this chipper works pretty well. It’s a late 80’s/early 90’s machine with a 5hp briggs on it. We spent a few hours outside getting all this done. My wife even used her small battery powered GTA Stihl saw to cut down some of the branches. We’ll, tried to upload pics, but I keep getting a “Security Error”…odd.
