About 8-10 years ago I got access to boxelder trees that produced maybe 5 or 6 cords. Not the best but not bad and I would definitely take it again.

What is your primary firewood species? Do you scrounge or cut as needed from your own place?

I scrounge and fill in with stuff from my property. On my property its a variety. SBH, hard maple, cherry, some elm and ash.
The boxelder I was referring to was on a former coworker's property.

Moved a heaping load and stacked for my friend. Ground froze up enough for me to drive in his yard. I started unloading then remembered to take pics. IMG_2757.JPG IMG_2758.JPG Front row new stack. Box elder, Norway and red maple. He doesnt care if SS wood mixed in. IMG_2759.JPG I took the Chinese chestnut and added to an oak stack. Ill get another heaping load out tomorrow. IMG_2760.JPG

Moved another load of splits today and stacked. Finished the stack from post #124 above and started another. Forgot to get finished stack pics. Most of the normal length wood has been moved. Id like to go back this week, but with the snow coming that may not happen. IMG_2761.JPG IMG_2762.JPG

Havent been back due to mud and work. Needed my friends yard dry so i could bring right to his shed. Sectioned up the big gnarly red maples and split. Lots of noodles. IMG_2983.JPG IMG_2984.JPG IMG_2985.JPG IMG_2986.JPG IMG_2989.JPG Ugly uglies. I rarely process gnarly rounds like this. Hats off to you guys that do.:tip: IMG_2987.JPG Split the pine rounds. These stay there for his firepit. IMG_2988.JPG Topped off the bed with nuggets. My friend gets this load. IMG_2991.JPG IMG_2992.JPG Stacked in his shed. Building a big nugget bin for him. IMG_2993.JPG Some left there yet.

Yep, those ugly pieces are more work than they are worth but you got it done.

What is your normal MO for them Joe? Noodle into sections then split? I imagine you get your fair share of them?

Thats the 400 with a 20" bar. The 261 and i think the 462 have seen cutting duty here too.

I have the tw6 with lift. A lot of that type of stuff goes into my wood boiler so it doesn’t need to get broken down too small but I also give a fair amount of them away

Last load out yesterday. Smalls and some chunklies. IMG_2997.JPG IMG_2998.JPG IMG_2990.JPG Stacked in his shed. He got maybe 80-90% of a cord in full length splits. IMG_3002.JPG Mound of nuggets/chunks IMG_3000.JPG IMG_3001.JPG Pallet base for the bin im building for him. 9'x5'x3' rough inside dimensions. Roughy 16" off grade so good air flow under it. IMG_2999.JPG
Score finished. Looking back i wish i didnt touch it, but hindsight is always 20/20.

Those ugly rounds get cut to square "splits" for me. I dislike the shredded piece like you showed, which end up getting thrown in the fire pit pile.

If i were keeping them i wouldve done the same. The 400 went through over a tank of mix just quartering them. My friend isnt picky. There wasnt too many that bad.

Assembled the nugget bin for my friend yesterday. It will hold a cord if filled level. He will fill, mound nuggets and tarp it. All reclaimed lumber. Added some slats to the base. IMG_3069.JPG

All you need is a lawn chair and a cooler with your favorite drinks and you have a ready made place to take a break when out scrounging firewood.
