Are you getting rid of the oil monster?

 

Gotta have a backup these days.

 

The only issue with running an old tank dry and then changing the filter is that all the sludge and crap will gravitate right to the filter. Most oil tank filters have a valve in that you can isolate the filter and replace it. Its very common with folks who run out of oil to have to have a filter change or you cant bleed the feed line.

 

Ran Munchy yesterday for 2 barrels worth.

Counting barrels now....We have a total of 60 barrels with the removable tops to store shells in.
Trying to clean out the old stock now and so it goes.

As of yesterday we have 24 full barrels left and 36 empties .

As the weather improves the plan is to get all the old stuff out so it can be used.....Clean off the slab and start fresh.

Aside from being a tad stale smelling the stuff that's nearly 10 years old is great....

We jammed Munchy several times running the 2 barrels of shells....The older stuff is from OLD orchards and there are lots of pieces of limb trimmings that get swept up and into the nuts as they are harvested.

Most stuff is about the size of the first digit on your little finger....This crap will jam the rotor on Munchy and require a quick shut down and opening the jaw to allow the offending nub to clear....

Pick the pieces out of the crushed shells and go AGAIN

The young orchards do not see as much of this junk....

With the BLIGHT (Disease of hazelnut trees) finally being dealt with by a new resistant species of tree) there are huge amounts of new orchards coming online.....The orchards are way cleaner now and far les crap to deal with.

There will always be some as pruning will leave small pieces that get into the harvested nuts.

When we suck the shells out of the dumpster with our vacuum system the crap goes right along as well.

Just part of the job.....


Hopefully we will be full up before summer and all ready for next winter......

Far more fun working in the nicer weather......Dodging rain, snow and nasty weather to get a load in sucks.....But we have done it many times and it will happen again......

This spring weather is still cold.....The 70F and sunny weather predicted never happened....instead we got upper 40's F and rain.....Arrrrrgh

Ballast boxes suck. Wheel weights and fluid is the way to go. Thank me later.

 

It was done 20 years ago with calcuim chloride.

 

Double stack if possible/needed.

 

My tires are filled, I also got a ballast box. It was a waste with filled tires and what little green could lift.

 

It's a 1026r. I've been impressed with the ag stock tires on it.

 

I've never put chains on. I was surprised how well it's done in the snow and ice with just 4w drive.

 

Weather behaved today.

Got the barrels all sorted out and the slab cleaned up

All the empties are double stacked in the rear area (Except 2) 34 double stacked and 2 singles on the outer edge.

All the empties tipped off into the sawdust bin (Horse bedding)
Then wiggle the old stock full barrels out and get them out to the small roll up door and the inner edge of the slab...WHERE WE CAN GRAB THEM...


A nice walkway to get the door up as we use the last old stock up.....

The dumpster must sit where I can pick it up with the skid steer and not hit the overhead door tracks.

We do a dumpster full and then put the barrels in on the slab leaving room to put the dumpster in last....

One full row of full barrels all the way down the out side of the slab in front of the dumpster.....

The slab was a mess with tons of leaves and sawdust that had blown in over the years....

Leaf blower did a great job.......

All ready for some nice weather (Next week they say) and we will try to get a couple runs in....

I want as much full as we can get before summer and the plant shuts down......


Big deal was to get all the really old stuff out and then start over....

I really want to get that steel frame torn down and stored outside (Used to lift engines and things)
Then I can get into the barrels on that end of the slab easily

But at least we can get the stock updated and fresh.

There are barrels of old stock half shells...Some stuff is stove ready (Back when we were using the plants small cracker and I was building Munchy......Plants switched to all half shells off the shelling line)

There may be some old stock from before the plant switched to half shells and this material will have to be screened as we used to....Must be sure we do not get sticks into a stove auger.....

36 empties and 24 full ones......
Really wish we had a larger dumpster.....The one was have was made wrong for the garbage truck to pick it and dump it into the truck.....Got it unused for a very cheap price...-

The used ones for sale are nasty....Smell will blow a buzzard off a CHIT wagon at 1000 yards.

So we are happy with our clean 3 yard unit....Full it hold enough to fill 10 barrels....That's a days work to go get and unload.....Old folks move slower ta know

We looked at some 5 yard dumpsters the recycle yard was replacing.....

Did not need to look....could smell them before we got there.

Drove more miles to get the one we have.....Bought it from the manufacture....They had it in their BOO BOO LOT......
Fella said it would be too costly to fix the mistake that was made in how the lift lugs were welded on and it would LOOK LIKE IT WAS REHASHED....
