I asked my roommate if she could find free firewood amongst the various local social media sites she was on. Bob responded & I have cut & brought home a cord, so far. There is much to be gained! There is a good amount of the pictured wood in the pile. I haven't seen it before. Any ideas?

I'm the last person who should take a stab at it, but bark looks a little like mulberry, wood not so much

Does it stink? It looks to me like it could be tree of heaven. Just the piece you picture, not the other stuff in the truck.

Yep. Tree of Heaven is my guess too.
I burn a lot of it. Good firewood.

If there's plenty of it, get it. I see that as Horse chestnut. Not an oak variety. It stinks when you burn it but keeps the house warm. I associated the smell almost like antifreeze....like syrupy but not in a good way.

The bark just reminds me of it. The nuts are a PITA aren't they?

In the past, they were! Over the last five-ten years there have been a lot less. It is slowly dying. The tree is iconic within our family, so we haven't cut it down. There have been decades of cocktail parties under that tree, and at least three generations of tree houses in it! It is not good firewood!
