From your front porch while he's driving away  - not going to get you off on self defense
If you think you want to shoot someone(I personally don't want to ever be in that situation) read this book:

In Maine, the Castle Law says you can use deadly force for protection, inside your home. Outside, all bets are off. So, it's thought, make sure they're inside when you administer any lead pills. Only outside defense that can be used... is if some drugged out nut was trying to start your home on fire... deadly force can be used. Prolly would still be considered hurting the feelings of a less fortunate individual tho... :picard: Not sure about other states.

Put one of these inside your shed for the next go-around. This guy is a "silent stalker" inside. He'll let you step in before he "kisses" you.............. Homeland Security-1.jpg

That just sucks good thing you were home though. Harbor frieght(Miller Rd.) has some driveway alerts that you could install might give you some piece of mind.

That sucks HD. Same think happened to my Dad about 15 years back. He had been working on the riding mower, left it in the driveway and somebody stole it in broad daylight while they where at Church. Had to have rolled up in a trailer in full view of the neighbors :( never found the guy afaik.

Some lowlifes stole my 10 yr olds bike years ago, and a week later I found it at the local pawn shop (of the three shops in our small town they went to the one 3 blocks away..dumbasses) Called the cops, they showed up and asked about serial # which I didn't have but he had a combination lock that he proceeded to open, and they said "good enough". This should remind all of us to record serial #'s

Sorry to hear HDRock, I remember the ice storm of 1998, people who had generators but had power were lending them out to people who lived outside of Massena who didn't have power, they were stealing them from the people who were using other peoples generators.

I hope you get your stuff back.

Generators were getting stolen around here after the big tornado in 2011.
Rural looting after a disaster is probably on par with what goes on in cities -just dispersed so it doesn't get the same attention.
They actually caught a guy with a powerpole transformer in his trunk - one dedicated copper thief

My X wife had a house that was empty for a while , they went in and tore the pipes out , I don't remember what the estimate was to repair all the damage but it was a lot

The Massena Fire Department would call people who would donate the generator for use in an area without power, most generators would go to that local fire department.... they would be in charge of who would get one, while they were out on calls people would come an steal them.

Would love to see them get caught and assigned to many hours of community service plus full restitution to the victims.

I'm going to chime in on the CL suggestion as well. I mentioned this in another thread but a second go round can't hurt.

Nearly 3 years ago, we had a bunch of stuff stolen from our shed. Among the items taken were 2 high-end horse saddles. It was 4-5 weeks later when they showed up on CL. With the help of one of the local detectives, we got the saddles back but unfortunately nothing else.

Stay vigilant. Someone is going to try to sell that stuff. It won't be tomorrow or next week and maybe not even next month but they WILL try to sell it. Good luck. Hope they catch the dirtbags.

That sucks HD. Have you figured out why they hit you? Was it random, or did someone, somewhere know what you had, and your schedule?

I just really don't know, it's possible it could be either one.
I'm at a dead end Street only one close neighbor, once you are in my back yard you can't be seen but there is an apartment complex not that far in the back.
Seems like the guy was awful quick for it to be random but I don't know.
Keep your locks locked that will slow people down but not nessaceraley keep them out.
Worst part is the brand new blower I am going to need soon cuz I have a ton leaves.
Not that it's okay that he stole it but the generator I bought 14 years ago and never had a power outage since I bought it.
The truck had plywood sides on the back and kinda reminds of the scrappers that go around so maybe he has been down here before

Doesn't sound random to me, they did a hit-n-run, but knew you had valuable stuff. So, after a few months go by, set a trap.
Buy a used blower/ snow blower. Be very visible when using it and leave it in a protected yet visible location. Set up a few cameras, I'm thinking game cameras or such, and wait. The guy that steals that one should be the same guy, or lead you to the original thief.
In the next few weeks, leave outdoor lights on and some nighttime presence, and then taper off on vigilance. They'll get bold again.
Then the cameras take over, for the daylight thief's. Go get 'em.

have to agree with rottiman, Otis playing with his favorite split, on the couch in the living room. Do you want to tell him he cant have it in the house. LOL. You may come in but you can not leave without permission.
