Cigars??

I thought I would try this one tonight, I have high expectations.

 

Had my 5th Rocky Patel, out of the sampler. They're still batting a thousand. Good flavor, fantastic burn, but she was a big one for me. Only smoked half of it. I'll finish the second half tomorrow. Looks like I need to venture into other Rocky brands.

 

So about 10 minutes in & I am getting tar bubbles.

I am less than impressed…

 

That's not good. For a cigar rated 98, that's pretty disappointing.

 

I trimmed the head end just a bit & clipped the fired foot off & bagged it.

After some research on the interweb, recommendations seemed to be just trim a bit off the head & you are good to go. So I will try to fire it back up after a bit.

Thanks for doing the leg work and posting the link. That's interesting. I'll have to keep that in mind if I run into the issue.

 

So I relit the Pledge & it burned great & had no more tar issues. Apparently I don’t know how to trim a cigar properly…

 

Thanks for posting that link about the tar JimBear . I haven’t noticed that issue, but I’m just a cigar rookie though. I think I clip just a RCH more off the head than you did in your pic.
I had this one today by the pool in Florida with the family on spring break. The taste was pretty great! I did notice that it didn’t seem to burn even. Maybe I just didn’t toast/light it right. IDK. Regardless I enjoyed it and will put these on the reorder list.

 

I have only been into cigars for about a year so I am still learning a lot.

When the burn gets that wonky, I just touch it up to try & even things up.

Those are good cigars.

Those are a very good smoke. I have more problems with uneven burning, from Drew Estate, than any other manufacturer. Not that brand so far, but a lot of other DE brands. Sometimes, it's just what happens, regardless of how much we try to mitigate it. I also try to rotate the cigar every puff, and sometimes that helps.

Not sure what you use for a torch, or lighter, but I like to keep a single flame torch, just for touching up cigars if I need to. 2, or 3, flame torches work, but it's easier to work 1 flame, than the bigger ones when touching them up, in my experience.

 

Thanks for the info! I’ll try and remember to rotate. I just used this simple zico torch lighter. Good to know about that it’s something that sometimes happens. Didn’t really effect my enjoyment any.

 

Cigars, for the most part, are man made, in a production setting. As with anything man made, sometimes things get sideways. Even with the best QC in the world, things are bound to slip through every now and again. Just something to keep in mind.
