I am now the owner of a smart phone and hoping this dumb guy can conquer it.

What accessories do you recommend I get, like maybe screen protector and case. Anything else?

Yep.... glass screen protector and a good case. Guaranteed you'll drop it more than once.

Those 2 items should be considered absolutely necessary. Maybe consider a magnetic quick charger vs. the plug in type

There are screen protectors that are guaranteed for life. The one that I have I got from Best Buy and they have replaced it at least a dozen times no questions asked. Otter box makes very durable cases. Both not cheap but worth it if ya ask me.

That's the only thing I've ever bought...that and delete about half the stupid apps that come loaded on them now.
What did you get, an Android, or Apple?

Does the phone have a memory expansion slot for a micro SD memory card? You may need to get one if so. (mine do because I buy the cheap phones which means not much onboard storage) I don't have much experience outside of Motorola Android based stuff as it's all I've ever used. I choose not to run a case or screen protector. I'm pretty good at keeping it out of harm's way most of the time. Also, sticking with a sub$200 budget allows for inexpensive replacement if I do damage one. No way would I want a $1000 + phone. I don't need that additional concern in my life. lol

I can say that additional charging cords are handy, especially the longer ones when there is not a plug conveniently located. Many folks like a holder in their vehicles. Mine usually stays in my pocket in the truck.

Otterbox is also lifetime warranty. Not advertised but they will replace if you contact them.

x2 Backwoods Savage, I have a thin rubber phone protector that's saved it during accidents, kiddo has a hard one, they either stretch or clip on the back and cover/protect 5 sides of the phone but screen is open.

Also not sure about your eyes, but kiddo went into my settings and made my text size bigger, I don't have to squint or hold my phone out at an arms length to focus.

Playing around with text size suits me. I have 2 desktops and both are set for larger texts. I will say after my cataract surgery that helped a lot.

that rubber phone protector. Is that like you had on the other unit that is now mine?

YES, except that was a super duper one to protect from little kid accidents, this one is clear, ~1/4" thick. The Otterbox tree killer killer mentioned is more like the previous one and might be good for wood cutting etc.? I have one like this one below, but I think its called silicon, not rubber. And clear, no butterflies :)

I really like the Otterbox cases; definitely worth the extra over the masses of cheap cases on the market. The last one I had was made in USA too.

Also WWW wears a holster on his belt (the thin silicon one on his phone fits in it too). Last time the one with wallet slots was less $$ so I got that one, he's actually using it as a wallet now. All models he's had over the years were either velcro or more recently magnet for the flap closure.

I’ve had a couple replaced because the screen protectors were scratched. Also had one replaced because the rubber was like peeling. So probably.
