Thanks. Its a beautiful thing the way it splits. Being a forest tree it was nice and straight too. Sad when these are gone. Getting scarcer to find.
Those trees give me the heebie jeebies as far as felling goes. My luck dictates that the vibes from my saw will release a nice widowmaker from the top.
Caught up on SS the last tree so went to work on more today. Wind has felled a couple and topped another. Bucked up most of the downed wood, felled a spar and took down another standing dead. Couple tanks though the 261. Split some and moved a few wheelbarrow fulls up to the main stack. Some of the wood was a bit worse than what i like. Wish i'd harvested these last year. Heartwood splits. I'll nibble away at splitting and moving wood closer to the main stack just into the woods here. Couple trees to come down yet. This area maybe 200 yards into the woods and closer to the main trail than the first area.
Yes there is is some around. No wide spread EAB around here that I know of. I think the trees are to few and far between for that
Oh yeah. The EAB has pretty much wiped out the beautiful old growth Ash in Colorado. It’s sad. There are still some massive city Ash trees where I work. The parks and forestry folks are working desperately to save them. They are always spraying them and doing some kind of deep root treatment on them. I give them a lot of credit. I see them out climbing, measuring, spraying and trimming them all the time.
Big side is not even close. I don't know if it would be worth the effort to try to get a load there or not. Don't get me wrong ; I don't working for it but that might be a little much.
They did the same here in our city with the big ash. All for naught as even these are now showing signs of eab.
Spent a good part of the afternoon yesterday bucking, splitting, and moving wood. Ran a tank through the 400. View up the trail to one of the "in woods" stacks. SS and moved a half cord yesterday. More splitting to be done and more to move. Couple trees yet to come down.
