Yes, the embankment is slick with mud and snow. Some of the logs are 18", 36" or 48" too heavy to go up the last part. Also logs are not allowed to be longer than 36" in the truck. Drop, take a breather on the way back to the woods. Cut up and load at the end.
I'll work in stages like that when I'm hauling wood out of the swamp. It has something to do with task repetition. I slip and fall less and it just seems a lot easier.
Just between you, me and the internet I’d back the truck right down that embankment at an angle and right down to that tree
Scrounging wood in the rain both ways uphill. Its going to be cold tomorrow so I decided wet and warmer is better. Anything worth taking from the top is gone, down to the stem. Bagging up the noodles for fire starter. Greasy slipping hazard. Fuller load than before. Pile of hickory rounds.
Kicking azz there. Ill take cold over wet personally. When i hoard in the cold i rarely get cold. How soon you getting the rest?
Thanks Brad, I'm going to play it by ear. If my back and arms feel good maybe tomorrow. If not probably Sunday. I prefer the cold to wet but I had the time today.
I'll throw this out on here. Was talking to my good friend last night and mentioned hickory. He said his brother that cuts a lot to sell told him when he gets hickory to stack he puts moth balls mixed in with the splits and it keeps the borers at bay. I'm going to try it out.
Interesting. Let us know how it works. Im wondering if cedar sawdust would have the same effect? I save it when i buck cedar logs to use for making firestarters. I stack hickory on its own. I checked my 2.5 year old cord of honey locust and there was no borer activity noticed. Ive seen on here they love HL and make a lot of frass in a stack of it.
My hickory stacks from 2019 are loaded with borers. Too late for these two cords. Had a lot of borers when I cut it down and split it 4 years ago.
Back at it again running on barbecue venison sandwiches and Ibproufen. My co pilot is not impressed... Noodling some rounds splitting others. Good stopping point gotta make it back for Sunday dinner. Not too much left. Whole lotta BTUs. Weather's looking bad this week. Will hit it again next weekend.
