Passed this last month. A couple guys with a backhoe clearing the edge of a field next to the road. Went by earlier this week and the end of one log caught my eye...unmistakable color change...mulberry. Got the okay to cut and take what i wanted. Not much but a rare score for me. 201 rear handle did the honors. A few catalpa rounds too.
Excellent score. To the untrained eye I can see how someone could confuse catalpa with fresh cut mulberry. Both are “weed” trees.
What impresses me more is his lack of accidents when driving because buZZsaw BRAD seems to spend a considerable amount of time looking at the sides of the road instead of looking AT the road.
I confess: "GUILTY" as charged. Ms. buZZsaw scolds me all the time when she is with me. "stop looking at trees, eyes on the road"
There was more gnarly catalpa and box elder in the mix. The green twigs on the BE gave it away. I think BE bark looks more like mulberry than catalpa. Catalpa was a nice straight log and an easy grab.
Nice grab, Brad! I manage to find a fair amount of Mulberry around here. Love the stuff. Good on a cold winter night.
Little mulberry is better than no mulberry! It is such a fragrant wood to burn. I pulled all the splits that could be used in my smoker from my basement stacks. Hopefully I can keep finding some on occasion. There's a decent one on fbmp but being swamped in oak, I'm not willing to travel to get it. Do you do any grilling Brad? I recommend trying it out if possible.
Actually not really, but being mulberry i HAD to have it. Any other wood, save for BL and maybe HVBW idve left it. There was more SS logs buried that i left.
You beat me to the punch on that one Just wait a couple weeks till it warms up and you can plant your flowers in the back
I pointed it out to Skier76 when i delivered his wood on Thursday. Fuel mix had tipped over a while back so now it smells like gas if i move it around. Its like a time capsule back there. (eventually) When i clean it out its like a archealogical dig!
I have literally 1 mulberry log in my stacks. It was a decent size. I gave it the honors of stacking it with BL. I wish I could get more.
Ran it through the hydro this afternoon.. Four heaping wheelbarrows full not including the skinnies. Had no where to stack it so filled out a half cord rack of cherry i was filling. That yellow color is so cool! I know, i know, im a tree nerd!
