I love the idea of a three year plan that gets preached on here so I'm gonna try to accumulate as much wood as possible. This is a load of maple from a cl 5 miles from me. I think it's the worst of the maples but it's free heat. The guy liked that I treated his lawn with respect and we had a good conversation about a lot of things. Long story short, in the fall he's getting the biggest white oak I've ever seen dropped and he's gonna call me to take the wood. No pics of that tree yet because I don't want to take a picture of the guys house but it's huge. He's dropping another maple this week so I'm taking that as well. Anyone id this maple? It feels light for it's size.

I stacked some of that in with some Sugar Maple, we take what mother nature puts down, she usually treats us pretty good.
Looks good, free is good... Get 3 years ahead and then you can start to pick and choose your varieties... But yes looks like the softer maple variety, but it's still hardwood and it will burn...
Definitely soft maple. Looks like red to me but silver and red are so close it really doesn't matter. It'll dry quick. Keep the rain off it and the sun on and you'll be burning it fall '15.
Doesn't this stuff dry really fast? It might come in handy for the 15/16 winter. Should have it all trimmed up, split, and stacked tomorrow.
Soft maple will season up fast and can be mixed in with other hardwoods that maybe aren't perfectly seasoned.
Looks like silver maple to me. If split and stacked now I think could definitely go next winter. Will burn pretty quick once seasoned, but free wood always heats well. Congrats on nice haul and on making a good future connection. White oak is excellent but will take a lot longer to season.
Yep looks like silver from here, it burns a little faster but throws some nice heat. Not a darn thing wrong with a load of silver.
Definitely soft maple but don't call it the worst! Soft maple is good wood to burn but it is best burned during the daytime because it will burn a bit faster than other woods. One of the best things about soft maple too is that it will dry fast. We have cut it in March and burned it in October but it is still best if you wait a year on it. You'll also find it is one of the easiest splitting woods there are. That is also what we use for making kindling wood because it drys fast and lights off fast and burns hot.
Split and stacked all the easy stuff last Monday. Did some cutting and noodling on some of the uglies today. Hope to have it all css by tomorrow afternoon.
Well that was a dumb idea today. It's about 90 with so much humidity I may as well be under water. Wow it's sticky out.
Only have about 15 smaller rounds left. It got too hot this morning and now it's storming. College football and beer time!
