With my 034S. When I release the throttle it takes a while for the chain to stop spinning. Is that a clutch spring issue? I bought it used, so I don’t know if the clutch has ever been replaced.
Proper chain tension. To loose will allow it to spin. May need to adjust the idle speed down a bit. That's all I got for now.
Hard to say unless you have a tach. If it's idling at the proper speed, and still spinning, then it's a clutch issue. If it's idling high, well, that needs to be addressed before looking into the clutch.
Then it's likely the clutch springs have overheated and lost some tension. A set of springs used to be pretty cheap. I have no idea what they go for these days but I'm sure it's much less than a complete clutch assembly. I'd disassemble first and evaluate the condition of the bearing, drum, and shoes before deciding to purchase a clutch or just the needed components.
If you are getting a new clutch and have a spur setup, switch to a rim setup. It's much smoother and more efficient, also cheaper to replace a $5 rim than a $35 drum.
Remove the clutch and rattle the shoes around and see if the springs are stretched or the spring holes are oblong. Could also be a dry or bad clutch drum bearing
Pull it apart, hose down with brake clean, grease output needle, reassemble and test? Clutch springs seem to be the only thing I can think of. I run my chain tension on the tight side, so mine almost never freewheel for more than a second.
I don't have a lot of experience with aftermarket clutches but my experience with other aftermarket items has been hit or miss. If you can afford to replace it again, then maybe the aftermarket clutch is worth the risk. If the clutch was fine other than needing new springs (common failure), I'd def go with new OEM springs.
Yep, oem is best. I used an aftermarket clutch and it rattles/dings at idle. Drives me nuts. It goes away when the brake is on, but between cuts it's like a tiny dinner bell.
Pulled it this morning and there was some hair or fibers wrapped up next to the bearing along with the bearing being dry. It doesn’t feel like the needle bearings are rolling. Plenty of crud buildup in the drum too. Springs feel tight.
Easy stuff is good. A pea sized blob of grease on the clean bearing will probably last another 30years
That’s only on the outboard clutch model huskies. I don’t believe a 372 has it being an inboard clutch. Not sure if the top handle Stihls with the outboard clutch are like that or not
