I prefer my compressors to require oil. I highly recommend buying a scba (used) tank capable of 4500 psi. and getting a compressor that can top the tank off. It can be annoying enough topping off the bottle on the gun from a tank, I can't imagine turning a compressor on each time while shooting. Still better than a hand pump though. I don't know anything about those compressors though. I don't even see where they are made at.
I just looked up that YongHeng compressor. For that price it's definitely worth considering. Especially after your personal experience and review.
I believe the nomad series require oil but it's consumed not in a sump. I'll definitely get a bulk bottle to fill a gun from. Are used scuba tanks less $$ than a 4500 psi carbon fiber PCP tank?
it works ok for the price. just watch because I've read about ppl getting a fake of those. the irony of it to be honest..
From what I'm seeing scuba compressors don't seem to depreciate much. So if you pay for one and treat it well and keep it nice you won't loose much if any.
Im not sure what todays prices are. I think most scuba tanks go from 3k to 3.4k psi, so they don't have as much demand as the carbon fiber tanks.
Man that is going to take some serious amperage to run at home, apx 40 amp or more starting load around 22+ for running on 220-1ph. I would have to look up that compressor to see where parts/ service can be found
Actually the 10hp single phase shop compressor in my garage is 49 amps running and over 250 amps starting. I used to run a 15hp single phase motor in there, 69amps running iirc. I still have two of those motors nos. About 400lbs of single phase fun.
the old saying- Buy once cry once - particularly true on compressors. stateside support from mfg. that is BIG in my book. I have compressors in my shop from pancake units to 55cfm behemoth. Oilless compressors - mostly throw out when they die, repair time and parts exceed original cost if you can get parts. Carbon fiber tanks still have an alumn. or steel pressure vessel under the carbon. It is a weight savings thing.
On my 55 cfm set up when the mag contact kicks in it sounds like a 30-06 just went off next to you. 100 amp 220v 3ph line
Another alternative is the Altaros Booster unit . This works like the shoe box did using you standard compressor for supply air. apx $750 + shipping and whatever. it should be able to attain 300 bar ( a little over 4000psi). has auto stop as well I believe. I had forgotten about these I do not know if any one carries it here stateside.
So i called the fire department about the compressor. They are in a complete new building with a new air system. The one for sale was just serviced recently and was in use until 2 weeks ago, no issues whatsoever. 6k psi Game on!
so whats the word on the fire dept compressor? another alternative is Gx cs1-4 compressor 4 stage 5800 psi auto stop apx $700 ( new model) read a decent review of this, the reviewer also has the #3 model . #4 is watercooled internal this one has me interested, just because i have a hard time with the prices of alkin, bauer, nuair, it is chi-com though which make me skeptical, but that's just me.
Funny thing, I've been kicking around the idea of a pcp gun. A friend gave me a Chinese springer that shoots OK, but ya got to be a manly man to cock it. 20 or 30 rounds are killer. It's an xs25s chinesium. I went back to my .22's. Once you make it through the initial investment in the pcp, the cost of feeding the habit's about what 22 rimfire used to be, as near as I can tell.
I still don't know what my first one will be. I have a couple of gamo break barrel rifles but the amount of messing around for one shot kinda sucks. Especially with arthritis. Also looking forward to being able to take a break at work and go outside and plink a bit.
I might try a Seneca Dragonfly mrk2 in 22 caliber to dip my toe in. Its a multi pump with the same pumping effort from 1-15 pumps. I've watched some vids from a few different reviewers and its plenty accurate for what Id do with it. Eventually though I'll definitely move into full PCP rifles. After getting set up to fill at home.
Umerex notos looks like it gets good reviews, but it doesn't look like you can get one 'till the end of April. Might be a good starter. The problem is, there's so many out there!
yep the market is crazy fat with pcp units. fromm.177-.50 and even .72 cal. Guns them selves are not badly priced, but the gotcha is the air pressure side, that hasn't quite settled in yet. lot of chi-com pumps out there ( there really are only 2 China mfg) on the low dollar end ( buyer be ware). Bauer and Alkin start at about 6Gs. Nuair is coming out with a replacement for mch6 don't know where that will be priced maybe $3000-4000? Hill and Daystate are rebadged units from somewhere. There are stateside mfg. but pricing is really high as these are industrial units nothing catering to the pcp field. Large tanks pricing that hasn't changed over the course of the last 25 years.. Hand pumps have gotten a little more expensive but they have improved quite a bit over the same time period. Heck of a cardio vascular work out. Started with a hand pump -got a shoebox( no longer made) which i sold a number of years ago and got a refurbished Military rig, but it tops out at 3000 psi which is good enough for a lot of the guns , but the new number is 4500 psi.
