Two weeks ago we had a large flock in a tree. 20-30 I'd guess. Haven't seen them since. Turns out, from looking them up after spotting them, Robbins often stay here all winter as long as they have berrys and fruit to eat. Not necessarily fruit we eat. Hackberry, juniper ect.
No robin, blackbirds, Forsythia or daffodils here yet but I have seen the first buzzards of the season. Spring Peepers usually start in February, have not heard any yet. Looked back through my phone, grass usually starts growing around April 1-15, apple trees start blooming a few weeks later.
Saw daffodils blooming today, looked like they'd probably been open a couple days. And the red maples are blooming, and some elms are starting.
Years ago I gave some naturalized Iris to my In-Laws that live in Cali. There (5600') they bloomed in July at my home , in Cali they bloom in FEBRUARY
Saw daffodils about 3” tall a couple days ago and heard the first spring peepers tonight. Spring is coming, will still have some bad weather but very unlikely to have weeks of continuous snow cover at this point.
We're supposed to get in the 80s today, talking about the potential to set a all time record for February. All kinds of stuff is blooming, frogs out, saw a snake yesterday, birds singing. Feels like turkey season. And supposed to be in the 40s Saturday with rain and a chance of sleet...
Hostas, day lilies, and daffodils coming up. Rose bushes have buds as do burning bushes and many trees.
Seems like it here as well but I think its because we've had like 4 springs this winter with 45-60° sunny days in between mini winters. Talk about an irritating rollercoaster.
I saw a bluebird a little over a week ago, when it was warmer. Crazy, considering that they only eat bugs. Since then, we've had two 6" snow storms.
I don’t see many birds since I got rid of the sources of bird food around the house. got tired of having to wash the patio down thoroughly every time we wanted to eat outside or grill.
It's 56 and sunny here today. Grass has definitely greened up in a few places. Red maple buds are showing a little color. Won't be long now.
The wild crocus that spread out across the lawn and in concrete cracks all popped up a couple days ago with the one not-so-untypical warm day last Sunday and something has been eating all the snowdrops. Daffodils are all up a couple inches but halted with the more recent cold weather. They might take a little bit more extended warm spell to stir but not enough to be concerned about covering them to protect them form the errant ways. At least not yet. Some weather nerds are forecasting a cold Spring following this warmer Winter. We'll see.
Well Backwoods Savage you guys get much up your way last night? This should be gone later today or tomorrow. 40s today and over 50 tomorrow.
We did not get much snow. It snowed for several hours but it was that fine snow that takes many hours just to accumulate an inch. Then we got freezing rain that made it bad, especially for the animals. Also if one likes to walk quiet. lol. Now one could not even sneak up on a deaf man because it is so noisy walking and breaking through that crust. Then we got a couple more inches of snow this morning. I'll be happy to see some 40's and 50's! btw Jeff, are you interested in coming to our GTG in April?
The stuff here must've come down in an hour or two. I remember looking outside like 10-11ish, nothing. Got into researching mini splits. Next thing i knew, it was 1:30. Got up to go to bed and noticed it was kinda bright outside! We've seen a few 40s-50s here and there all winter. Went dirt bike riding about 3 hours south of here end of Nov, Jan 1st, and middle of Feb. It's sure been a crazy one. I was actually talking to a buddy a couple weeks ago about it. I'm kinda thinking we might try to come up for the day. Not too sure yet but I'll be sure to bring a few saws if we do.
