I have a 250 and had it for years. That little thing has cut a boat-load of wood and still going. It doesn't get a ton of use anymore, but I just can't bring myself to get rid of it. No idea why but just one of those things.
Autotune on my 550 is one of the handful of times I required a dealer. Had it flashed to no avail. Ordered an AT12 updated carb that came preloaded from seller for my saw via serial #. So even though I had access to a dealer for the electronics, my issue was ultimately resolved by myself and an online parts dealer. Another time I can think of was a dead coil on my Echo top handle some years back. I was still pretty green and could not diagnose issue at time. Took to dealer for diagnose/repair. Found out at that time the saw's ignition is warrantied for life. I plan to hold them to that! lol
The crew that just cleared the easement for our power company, Trees LLC, formerly Trees Inc, use ms250s and 201s.
Yep it makes a lot of sense to supply a crew with a 250 on the ground. Those saws are cheap, durable, and easily replaced. These days the saw I put in the hands of whatever unskilled hammer donkey I may have helping me is an echo 501. Built like a tank and inexpensive to replace. It has enough power to do anything I would need a helper to accomplish.
If guys can heat their homes for years using poulan wild things, home Depot Homelites ect, they certainly can with an MS 250 and with a whole lot less trouble. From what I've seen in my area anyway, most wood burners could easily get away with a 40-50 cc saw and 14" - 16" bar. Most aren't out felling big trees.
Not wrong in that insight at all. but when you use a larger homeowners or smaller ranch saw at the dwell time I’m thinking most do with their cutting, it might be wise to go a slightly bigger saw to not force it to work at maximum effort every time.
Sounds like an average scrounger around here. The guy cutting with a 460 surprised buzz-saw and i when we stopped to chat on Saturday.
There are very few pro saw users around my area that just burn wood. They use the farm store Husqvarnas, poulan, poulan pro, Stihl homeowner or ranch saws. One neighbor did buy a pro left over johnsered from a former dealer then accidentally buried it under 4 ft of leaves for 3 full seasons. Thought it had been stolen. Lol. I have a brother in law with a 310 and a 311 he bought new. I believe he would be much better off with a 261 or 545 / 550 XP. Thing is, he doesn't know any better. Those saws do what he needs.
Kinda sounds like me. I was "stuck" on a 290 for years. My only saw. Few years ago i bought my 460 powerhead for $40 not realizing what i got myself into. Spent a few bucks to get it into shape and game changer. Later joined the forum and now look at me. Just missing a 241!
Someday ill find one. Almost pulled the trigger on 200t last week. Gay wanted $275 and it was in decent shape. Most i see looking like that are $400-500 saws. 200 rear handle for sale near me too...$500
I know where a ms 201 cm with a light bar is haha the guy where my wife works ordered two rear handle 201’s instead of top handles for my tree climbing buddy
550xp would definitely put a smile on your face. Pleasure to operate and downright feisty! I think you’d be hard pressed to fine more saw in the same class that hadn’t had extra sausages added
I was on the two saw plan running a 290 and a 391 , I recently sold the two of them and have since upgraded. Both were plastic saws but served me well and had plenty of life left in them when they left me.
