Or is it just me? I have a NIB saw right now that has only seen light of day once. I have already purchased carb Diaphrams, a fuel line, filters, spare air filter and am looking to get a coil for it. Partly due to it being a Makita and possible parts worry in the future, and partly just how I am. Been waiting for the non-cat muffler to get off backorder before putting it in service. Muffler finally in hand. Will swap a full wrap onto it as well.
Bars and chains = " Why Certainly" Other parts not really. I do have spare spark plugs and a couple other odds and ends but not a full stock of parts. If the going gets tough I'm with Steve; just grab another saw.
I buy 2 of every saw I own. Just bought 2 7900's mostly due to the same reason you mentioned, future parts availability, but I do that with my Stihls, my 3120s and things other than saws as well.
I have some and lots of parts saws for older stuff but being I have mostly Stihl it seems parts for saws are Available for quite some time after the model is done and I realize they need to make parts by law for around 10 years but they seem available for much longer with Stihl. Husky on the other hand seems to end the parts supply shortly past the 10 years .
I too hoard bars and chains, but not random saw parts.. unless it's a high wear item. I keep spare rims, plugs, and an air filter around. But not in high amounts. Last count was 12 saws, so plenty of those .
I'm up to ten or eleven now. The acilliaries are beginning to pile up on me. I took care of rims last year after panicking about not having a 3/8-7 on hand when I needed one. Want to specify...I don't go too far into the hole with it. Example...I find the plsastic clutch cover on my 6100 to be fairly flimsy so there is one of them in my stash. Another would be an OEM muffler for a 550 mk1. Decided to muff mod the saw, purchased a new muff to have on hand in event of warranty issue. Still have it, NIB.
I have around 20 runners at this exact time with a few not far off. Some parts for most of them because lots are old saws.
I keep a couple of spark plugs and air filter (of course chains) but that’s about all. Lost my first bar nut a couple weeks ago. Dumb move on my part, loosened nuts after use intending to take off clutch cover and clean out a bit. Asked grandson to grab saw and cut some limbs off downed oak. Looked over and noticed chain was off? Then it dawned on me. Now have a couple spares, shop needed $2 each for them!
May wanna put that on and run a tank or two thru it. Might look kinda suspicious on a warranty claim?
Oh I would have 'patina'ed' it a bit. lol Once I got past two years it wasn't really a worry anymore. It did have a 5 year though. That was back when the 'lectric carbs were still prety new.
