So another year and another march. No stated goal but 300 cords would be sweet since I wasn’t that far off this past year. I am off to a great start due to more help this fall and early winter. When I’m out making deliveries in the fall, my helpers are busy splitting wood for the following year. I’ve also had some college kids working since their break started about 10 days before Christmas. With the warm weather, they’ve been putting some hours in (usually I try to take some time off around now but they want to work so I will keep them busy). Here’s what I have for next year already. The first picture is my cherry pile so far. The second pile is oak that was split in August and September. The rest are various piles as we’ve chipped away wherever I had room at the time. Time to do the 2023 march!
Update on my 4 active piles. 3 are oak and one is mixed hardwood. Also have enough locust this year to start a pile. Probably have about 4 cords in it so far. Much of it is bark less. Am significantly ahead of this point last year.
I feel like we need a drone shot to properly monitor piles this size. Or maybe one of those Chinese balloons?
I've been trying to find someone with a drone to document the progression. Once a month just to see it change would be pretty cool to see.
He still likes doing firewood related activities but at 11, he really likes spending time with his friends and he is very social.
In the summer....I'm just afraid he will want to fly it in our yard which is surrounded by woods. I see a bad crash and a tree hangup being a very probable event.
We fired up the tw6 today to knock out some white pine from next door. About 15 minutes later, one of his buddies showed up so I let him go play.
You’re doing a good job. Imperative to teach the work ethic (especially nowadays), but sometimes you gotta just let ‘em’ play. They have their entire lives to work.
Last year I said 350 this year so giving Joe a break. I suspect he won't have any trouble making 325, but yes, no pressure.
The worst kind. Stay safe and enjoy the ride this year. Always impressive. Me/myself am hoping for 25, maybe. Yea, I'm lazy.
