We only had sprinkles this AM. A little farther north may have been freezing rain. Looks like I gotta get me snow tires on the lil car like soon!

Never took my snow tires off this year. Didn't want to pay another $500 just to go about nowhere. Tires we got on the new car wore out at 25,000. Junk tires on new cars! We live on a steep hill otherwise I would have with good all season tires. Had an all wheel drive but the wife was scared of it so she traded it for the van. At least I still have my 4x4 f- 150.

That's funny savemoney, my wife loves her all wheel drive. It allows her to go uphill at both ends of the driveway in the winter.

The neighbor replaced his pickup truck with a 4 x 4 after it couldn't reliably get him into his yard. His wife managed to make it to the bottom of the hill in the middle of the driveway and there she set (off the driveway) until he got a tow strap on it and pulled it back on the driveway, her car lost its front piece of whatever they make them out of these days. It got pulled onto a tow truck and taken to the garage for surgery. It has also been replaced with an AWD.

Now everyone should understand why we plan for winter.

Went to 26 a few nights ago. Last night went to 34. On another note had to turn off the pellet stove as it was too hot to sleep.

My girlfriend's 24 year old daughter just came back from Phoenix with a 1 year old dog. Boy is that pup in for a surprise going from 105 deg average summer heat to a Kittery winter :D

Smokey, what happened was we had a 2006 ford Freestyle that we paid in the high 20's for. It is basically a ford frame on a Volvo. The transmission kept acting up. I would take it to the ford dealer, they said, they couldn't detect anything wrong with the transmission. The put in on some sort of tester and said that indicated another problem. $1000 to fix it. So we had the repair. My wife was going through a drive through and the car jerked forward again. At least no one in front of her. Back to ford. They said, well if that fix did't do it, their computer said it might be this other problem. The fix for that was another $1000. I asked again, what about the transmission. They said the computer didn't indicate that was an issue. So I said, and if it was the transmission, how much, they said $4000. So my wife went to the dodge dealer and traded it that night. They only allowed $4000 on this low mileage car. They said the reason was they suspected something wrong with the transmission! So she bought this big black van and a lifetime anything mechanical warranty. The warranty was nearly $4. Grand, but is good for as long as you own the car. She had owned other vans, so that is why she went back for another.

    I
tried to talk her into a Subaru, but she has had 3 joint replacements and want to have something that is easy to get in and out of. We get 26 to 28 mph on non interstate road trips.

Yeah, my 1997 Subaru had 302,000 miles on it when I sold it for 500 bucks....cat was gone, wouldnt pass inspection and I wasnt putting that $$ into a vehicle with so many miles. But the darn thing still ran pretty well !!

Went to a Honda Ridgeline for the versatility, but the Honda AWD system is nowhere near what Subaru has.

Been down around 28-30 at night the last few nights here. For the house I run the boiler in the evening time for several hours now. I heat the basement right up to about 80 degrees. Cheap storage! I also get the boiler and the 400 gallons of storage I do have up to 185ish. Then I can shut it down for the night and turn basement stat right down to 60. Wake up in the morning and run boiler again for about two hours between 5:30-7:30 to make sure it can meet heat demand and morning showers.

For the camp the stove is running through the pellets fairly well and is in a low setting. Once I install new stat for it today it will operate in hi/low mode and we will see if I use less pellets this way.

Suppose to be rainy and downright mild the next few days. In the sixties! High winds late tonight and through tomorrow.
