About 18 months ago, I wrecked my 462 and I have been waiting for a split case and lower tank body all of this time. I left it with one Stihl dealership for over a year and then the saw mechanic retired, and they still have not hired another. So, I retrieved my saw and took it to a bigger Stihl dealership and finally got my half case and tank body in, but I have been waiting for another month at least, after that for the gasket kit.

Still don't have the gasket kit, which is the hold up now.

I am at the point where, I doubt if I ever consider purchasing another Stihl saw, because parts are so darned hard to get. Stihl ought to take better care of their customers. Anyway, so much for my rant.

So, I got the part number today for the gasket kit from the dealership. They said there are aftermarket parts available, maybe, but they aren't allowed to install any aftermarket parts on the saws. I mean you would think, that somewhere in the United States, there would be a factory gasket kit for a 462.

Does anyone have a better source for Stihl parts? These Stihl dealers will only go through their one and only regional distributor, and if that distributor doesn't provide it in a timely manner, all they do is pretty much nothing to get you fixed from there.

You could get on the OPE Forum & post in the parts thread. Maybe a builder would have one.

You of course realize that Stihl is a German company, IDK, where gaskets are made BUT rubber is made from petroleum by products, read oil and gas which came by pipeline from Russia. And in the last year Russia has started a war and the pipeline to Germany was blown up.

if you post the part number I call my local dealer and see if they have it

Random grab....Sthil has their own magnesium foundry. Bet they make some cases for others.

'With the same overall power and weight of the MS 880, it is also still built in Germany with pro-grade materials such as a magnesium crankcase from our own magnesium casting facility. The MS 881 is a chainsaw to rely on for the toughest tasks.'

This is the part number: 11420071601, if anyone has a lead on one.

18 months, it's just aggravating to say the least.

Yea that's quite the joke. I blame the people who barely try at their jobs. Like you said... one place to look for the part and if they don't have it you're chit outta luck. It's the same way in most dealerships of all kinds.

My experience comes from car dealerships where i was a mechanic for 15 years. It's like pulling teeth to get parts people to source parts outside their little circle. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the kickbacks they receive. It's all a corrupt world.

Sure there’s issues getting parts, but I think a big part of it is chitty customer service, and people have been getting away with it for several years now cause there’s been plenty of money floating around our economy. I can see that ending shortly, and the businesses with chitty customer service are gonna be up chit creek and chit outta luck! I say try a couple other stihl dealers if you can and check out the ope forum as well.

Ok, I called them and they are supposed to get back to me, but they say that their contract keeps them from shipping it to another region, or whatever. But I pleaded with them and offered a bribe, jokingly.

Anyway, if they won't send it to me. I was just wondering if there is anyone on this board that lives near Utica, MI who could buy it across the counter and send it to me? Just a thought.

If you find anything around 53179 or 60002 I'd pick up and ship to you.
Could be overall easier to just cut your own.
