Locust mania that is. Its alive and well. Ive eyed this score since seeing the blowovers after a storm in August 2020. Wooded area behind a parking lot of a business bordering a highway. Confirmed with property owner before Halloween. Finally getting here to cut some. All clean up wood today. Bark came off in sheets. Many blowovers still with rootball attached. Some are still alive. 400 feasted today! Good half cord load. Split and stacked at storage. Cant remember the last time i CSS a full load in the same day. Before and after stack pics. Not sure if ill be back this week, but definitely next...maybe even on Monday! That song has been stuck in my head all day!
Wow. With a score like that you could skip a season or two of locust mania! I said could not should! I'm on a bit of oak mania myself, oak, hard maple, ash.
Thats a trash barrel although i like the way you think. I was picking up trash as i was cutting and loading. I had a time limit and had to be out by one.
Good looking spot with lots o the black gold! If I was on that highway and saw that little locust grove there would be some swerving going on. The best stuff looks like it’s pretty far back there, though. Any way to drag logs out via truck or some other contraption? I myself have been eying up the Honda capstan winch for situations like that. Bit spendy but could be a real help for some hard to get hoards.
This was the score i told you about when i met you at your ash score. I think i counted eight blowovers. The closest ones are still alive as shoots/suckers are growing. I didnt get close to the others. One must've hit the breakdown lane (route 15) as some clean up logs there pushed into the overgrowth. Kinda overwhelming when i started yesterday. Im guessing four cord for the score. Any of the living ones i may leave for the Fall. I dont mix bark on with barkless in the stacks, only in a the nugget bin. I would guess four cords for the score. There are several logs used as parking barriers and erosion control that i doubt i can touch that are not included. Couple other species of logs for the taking too. The guy was more than cool letting me get in there as the parking lot has a locked gate. Too many illegal dumpers!
I swerve many times and not just for BL. No contraption. Easy level ground with no traffic to worry about. Ill schlep rounds out. PITA but im used to it. No time restraints on the score.
wow, nice! If you leave the live stuff there till fall, is there any chance permissions will be withdrawn at some point? 4 cord is a lot of wood! We walked the rail trails here Saturday, and I ogled all he BL. Then we went to a plaza near us and around the back there is a ton of the stuff. little has fallen, and cutting would require cones to be out. But man, just to be able to have at it for a week or two . . . .
I doubt it, but dont quote me. The guy was really nice. As a return favor i was picking up trash and throwing it in the barrel. Ill offer to do more clean up or if i can help some other way. Find the owner or property manager and ask. Worse they can say is no. Cant have BL being homeless.
I have a small load of shorts to finish splitting at the Ash score, I'm to the point I'm combing for what I tossed aside. All the shorts fort a friend. There is wood at the farm, but the ground is too wet back there. So yeah, I might start drumming up land owners. Hoping to finish chores here today and hit the pine score again. I'll air toast you a cup of coffee when I get out there.
