Boil the concentrate till it turns to syrup . The permeate...or (waste water) that's removed from the sap...goes into a tank for cleaning equipment and cleaning RO .
I’ve only got 4 taps in, and since Sunday have collected over 6 gallons. I’m going to have to pick up a couple 5 gallon food grade buckets tomorrow to store the sap in. So far I’ve been using one gallon milk jugs for storage. Unfortunately I’m limited on cold storage space. Leaving the jugs in my garage space stored on the concrete foundation keeps them cool, but I think I want to boil the sap in 10-15 gallon batches before getting overwhelmed with too much for my Mickey Mouse setup. I’m still on track to start boiling this weekend though
Ready to go for round 2. Up till 2am last night..made 7 gallons of syrup...hoping to do the sane today. Figuring out the new ro upgrade....working great....also bottling what we have today. Very light ! Last 3 years we got medium right off the bat..so this is a nice treat..for those that like it light !
We started boiling last night but didn't get finished. Started back up this morning and I have about 3 gallons left at 214.5* last I checked.
Scaled down from last year. I got 86 taps in yesterday morning and Robin and I gathered about 50 gallons of 1.6 percent sap last evening. Boiled this morning to sweeten the pan , will gather this afternoon.
We ended up with just under 1.5 gallons of syrup. The weather looks like we're going to get a good 3-4 days for running sap starting tonight.
Collected 350 gallons today..a record for us in one collection! All at 2.25 percent...so things are off to a great start here ! So needless to say..lots of boiling in our future ! Bottling in between feeding the fire too.
I ended up moving my poor man’s evaporator setup close to the house. I still have to do the final tweaking of the blocks to get the pans sitting right, but it’s not too far off. I split some of the wood smaller too. I have no idea how much I’ll burn, but I suspect I’ll need more. My outdoor burning supply is very close by thankfully. My one large sugar maple produced 4 gallons of sap in the last 48 hours As of tonight I have 12 gallons ready to boil, which should surpass my goal of 15 by Sunday morning when I plan on starting the evaporator.
Finished tapping yesterday, ended up with 112 taps. We had to do some trail repair to get to all of them. Sap is running good today we will gather late this afternoon and I will boil in the morning
Just collected 300 more gallons today. Tested at 2 percent. Gonna be a busy week. No breaks this year !
