He could have driven by and saw me cutting. It wasnt a busy road. That area of North Haven was hit hard by a small tornado in May of 2018. He lost a lot of trees and bought the tractor then. Ill bet he heard the saw stop and finally decided to come down as he had intended to get the wood this weekend.

Plan B today was to hit this score again. Not the same spot but a couple just up the street. First spot was half a PU full of TOH (ailanthus). Easy park, cut and load. Not a huge fan, but ill take it when easy and im in need of SS wood. IMG_2474.JPG IMG_2477.JPG Second was two houses up with cherry and sugar maple. IMG_2475.JPG IMG_2476.JPG Got all the cherry and enough SM to top it off. IMG_2479.JPG IMG_2480.JPG IMG_2487.JPG Off to storage. Split the cherry and maple. IMG_2486.JPG IMG_2490.JPG The ants werent marching! IMG_2488.JPG IMG_2489.JPG More maple here and at the first spot in OP. Maybe a PU full. Another trip soon.

Was headed back after more sugar maple today. Decided to scout and see if they took any more trees down. This one yard had some but too far off the road. No car in driveway the last couple times. There was today. Knocked, lady answered and i was good to go. Cherry and big yard sugar maple. IMG_2507.JPG IMG_2508.JPG IMG_2509.JPG IMG_2510.JPG Got all the cherry IMG_2511.JPG Topped it off with maple. 261 did all the cutting. Didnt check the porta potty base brenndatomu ;) IMG_2514.JPG IMG_2515.JPG One cool cherry burl i saved for milling cookies. IMG_2512.JPG Dont want any of the gnarly maple trunk but remnants of the other still back at OP location. I did see traffic signs for asplundh, but i think they were at lunch.

I scored a pair of 12’x26’ bee tarps some guy tossed to the side at a truck on Tuesday. These will make nice shade covers.
    12' x 26' Mesh Tarp

Drove through the area yesterday and all the prior wood remnants are gone, but found a fresh sassafras trunk. Delivery nearby, so 261 made the trip too. IMG_2599.JPG IMG_2600.JPG IMG_2602.JPG Found this cherry and sugar maple to top off the load. IMG_2601.JPG IMG_2604.JPG IMG_2603.JPG IMG_2605.JPG IMG_2606.JPG IMG_2607.JPG Off to storage. Split the entire load. Some for bundle wood. IMG_2612.JPG Some added to the cherry stack. IMG_2610.JPG Some added to SS stack. IMG_2613.JPG Two crews were cutting close by. One taking down a huge tulip polar. I may go Wednesday after that.

Asplundh has been busy. I cut here Monday and a couple crews working close by. Today there was 3-4 in the area. Had help today from buzz-saw. Tulip poplar just taken down. Room to park and process. We got there just as they left for the day. IMG_2649.JPG IMG_2650.JPG It was very strange to have help. IMG_2652.JPG IMG_2654.JPG
We kicked azz. I didnt time it but my PU filled up fast. IMG_2655.JPG IMG_2653.JPG Massive pin oak next door to where we cut. The big log was over 36" IMG_2656.JPG IMG_2657.JPG Filled four heaping wheelbarrows full of splits. My cheesy little electric splitter handled most of what i put in there. IMG_2660.JPG
Lots more there. Going back tomorrow.

Wow! Awesome work guys! Is this North Haven? They’ve been doing some line cutting in Wallyworld; but it was only small branches. They are doing big work where you guys are!

Same here. They don’t even cut down trees that are obvious risks to power.

Sounds like an opportunity to meet a member(s), if you haven't met any.

Well today turned out to be very interesting day for scrounging. I was headed back to get more of the TP and buzz-saw wanted to go cutting again. I had to unload then deliver a half cord and we were to meet up this afternoon. He calls me saying two guys are cutting the TP...DANG. :hair: It was BIG wood. Who would take it? Well we met at the next block over as i had seen some fresh cut cherry. Lady home and we got the okay to take. Forgot before pics. IMG_2661.JPG Prior to cutting the neighbor across the street comes out and offers us more free wood. Some MONSTER tree trunks from clearing he had done in his yard. Most too big and gnarly for out liking. I did get his number as there was some we may go back for. We continued on our quest stopping a couple houses down to help a fellow hoarder driving small PU and using a Stihl MS460. Quick friendly chat and we proceeded back to where the TP was being cut. Two guys still working it. Found some red oak farther up and filled his trailer. IMG_2662.JPG IMG_2663.JPG
I may hit that area again next week checking for remnants and fresh cuttings. All in all a nice day and fun to cut with someone.

I used to cut with a brother in law many years back and cleared some logging tops with a friend a few years ago. Nice at times to team up.
