We must be in a cold spell out West compared to most of you. I'm probably around 6 cords used so far. I'm running out.
Probably 1 cord maybe 1 1/3 cords its hard to tell since Ive grabbed stuff from every different stack.
Between our cabin and home we are just getting into our 3rd cord, which is less than usual for this stage of winter, and no doubt this is due to the warmer weather so far.
Close enough to call it 3 cord for me. Last year was more by far but last year it was winter during this same time frame....
Probably up to around 3 cords-plus now, which is about average for this time of the burning season. That's a deceiving number though. I'm still using the average 'quantity' of firewood, even though it has been a warmer than normal winter, however I'm not using the same 'quality' of firewood as I have before. This winter was the first time I had some dedicated softwoods (mainly hemlock) for shoulder season/warmer days, so that skews my quantity numbers. Obviously, that goes up the flue a lot faster than say some of my three-year-old beech. Still, the wood stove has been going 24/7 for most of the last three months.
There's beech up there, eh? Nice. I wish I had some here to scrounge. I'll have to settle for red oak.
It’s usually this time of year I look at the pile I have designated to burn this year and wonder if I’ll have enough. Won’t be running out for sure.
Try to use our woodstove as the only heat source, so the burn season begins usually in October with off and on fires and continues into May. About 4.5- 5 cords is normal. Close to 2.5 cord so far. I know I haven't used more than a face cord of BL. More money in the bank for next year. I figure it equals out at some point and the piper will have to be paid.
I've actually gone to tracking usage. I know, get a life. Using my online calendar, I have an event called "racks". It's on the last day of the month. I list how many racks I emptied that month, and any other info I care to. Minimal effort. As I empty a rack, I update that month's event. Racks are 8ft long on average, 4ft high, close to 16" splits.
I know of a few scrounging areas where I annually pull some decent dead & down beech. The trick is finding the stuff that hasn't gone punky yet. I'm thankful I have access to so much beech because I seldom get any red oak.
I’m with ya buddy. The temps are way below average here this winter. It’s typically well below zero at my house when I leave for work this winter. Lots more snow than we usually get too. We have burned through 4.5 cords so far. We are typically through about 3 at this point, typically. Pretty typical morning temp here this winter. -11 f
I am about on par or better this year, but our winter has been generally mild. What’s crazy is I have burnt about 5 full cords so far. Big house, indoor wood furnace but no oil consumed. My shed holds 10 full cords and I generally use 90-95%. I wish I had only used 1-2 cords!!
I emptied another stack today. 7 for the season. 2 1/3 cords. Additionally, a bunch of chuglies back in late fall chased off any chills. Only 2 stacks of red oak used! The rest is a mix that I consider shoulder wood.
Been a cold winter here. I've used about 5 for the house, 2 for the sauna, and another 4 for the shop.
