I don't mean gloves to keep splinters off or to keep your hands warm. I'm talking about actual safety gloves that have the same or similar material as chaps to stop a chain before you lop off a finger or 4. Does anyone use them? I actually saw some at Tractor Supply was curious if any uses them

I don't, just leather gloves. I never saw a real reason for just bucking up firewood or cutting a tree up.

A quick look in an arborist supply book only shows one option for "rated" cut resist gloves. The others might say cut resistant but don't give a rating of any sort. I haven't looked into what kinda tests are done to get puncture or cut rated.

I can't imagine how bulky that could be. Is it just on the backs or are they like snow gloves?

when looking for chain saw gloves you want to look for a class rating,
class 0 is good for 16 meters a second,
class 1 20 meters a second and so on.
here is an example of a class 1 glove
    or class 0
Either my browser wasn't cooperating or stihl didn't list the class of their gloves. I wanted to link theirs but no point in it.

EHS bought me a pair and I couldn’t stand the stiffness and bulk. Same with the boots.

I’m trying to imagine how in the world a running chain could come into contact with an operators hands when a chin saw is being used properly?

I get maybe a top handle being used in tree, but otherwise I’m not sure.

Yeah those are traditional straight edge cut resistant gloves. I'm sure they are better than no gloves, but my rule of thumb ( lol) is to keep my hands away from the chain when the saw is running. Hands on the handles and you're fine.

I have used these for years. Not too bulky, and help with vibrations (and so I guess with white finger.)

My thought was kinda along the lines of... if an arborist supply catalog doesn't list them.... they must be a marketing ploy.

Homeowners that have more money and not so many brains. Like one person mentioned, how would you cut your hands with the chainsaw if both hands are on the saw. :loco:

I wear the thinnest leather gloves I can find . For me personally , any extra insulation ,or padding in the gloves , and I may as well wear oven mitts . :D
