Anyone have any experience with Tree of Heaven and whether it's good for burning. I've got a ton of it and know it's invasive and a favorite of the invasive spotted lantern fly. Hoping I can take advantage of getting rid of some of it as well as adding to my wood racks.
It’s not half bad. Takes awhile to season in my opinion. It may be prone to sucking water back in on the end cuts, mostly near the bark. All in all it’s an ok wood. Popular opinion is it’s junk. I burnt a lot in the pit because of that. I also saved some and burnt some this season for shoulder wood. I won’t be burning it in the pit anymore. Get is split and stacked and top covered. I’d say it’s about as good as the lessor maples with less coaling. Just means you can reload the stove without waiting for coals to burn down.
I ran into a bunch of it years back and burned it last year. It was Meh....more of a shoulder season wood to take the chill out of the air.
I use it for SS. Usually mix it with other wood. It can stink when it burns. I have a bunch of TOH to fell, but need to kill root system first. A few are pretty large. I plan to just burn tops in brush pile and process the larger stuff.
I like it.I had a huge one come down in my yard some years back.I got about a cord and a half out of it.Took about 7 months to dry and in log form it burned well and hot.I was told it was a Aliantus tree.I don't know if it was actually known as the tree of heaven but it might be.
Splits easy, dries pretty quick, burns hot and decently long. Id compare it to cherry except it stinks like rancind peanut butter when wet.
I dont go out of my way for it. Decent SS wood. Takes longer to dry that other SS IME. Hand splits very easily. Just cut some recently myself.
