I know every year people see robins in various places so we know it happens. I thought I had saved the pictures but didn't. A relative who lives not far from Lansing, Michigan took a picture of 10 robins sitting on the edge od a partially snow covered garage roof. These apparently just showed up. Someone else in the UP took a picture of a robin yesterday. That bird has had to endure some serious cold in it has stayed all winter.
My parents had a huge flock at their house this last week. The robins were eating the leftover crabapples on one tree in their front yard. They claimed there were hundreds of them!! Took the birds two days to clean off the whole tree and they said it was absolutely loaded with crabapples! Hopefully the snow melting off this week will help them out. It seems like I've read an article in the past about robins not mirating south from this area anymore. Something do to with our mild winters lately. Maybe they just don't migrate as far south anymore? So we see them sooner? Idk i was taught that the red winged black bird is the true sign spring is here. Once you see them sitting on fence posts......
I saw a bright red cardinal earlier, eating rose hips from the bushes next door. This is definitely the earliest I’ve seen them make an appearance. The hawks have been present more and more lately as well.
Guess I never noticed Most of the birds that frequent my yard are either starlings, blue jays, robins or the occasional crow or hawk.
Same here...always enjoy seeing them against a snowy background...or sitting in an evergreen tree or bush.
I saw about 30-40 3 weeks ago while I was at the stacks. Then last week saw a few when I was at work. Mocking birds as well.
We have Robins year round here, in the winter they seem to hang around large cedar tree patches in large numbers.
Here in SE PA, daffodils are popping up, the forsythia is starting to show yellow and the buds are starting to swell on the trees. These are typically late March, early April signs. Never seen such an early spring.
