I like where your head is at. Even though my ported 261 wears a 16" bar most of the time, I rarely considered putting a 20" on the 460's or my current 441. If you are running longer (24"+) bars on the 460, the lightweight versions make a big difference IMO. My 20" ES wide-nose and my 28" lightweight bars weight exactly the same. In the rare instance where the 261 would have just been buried all the time, but a 28" is too much, I do keep a 20" setup for the ported 441. Partially because it makes the 70cc powerhead much more maneuverable, and partially it's damm good fun.
Been dealing with Bryan at superior saw from when he was only in what is now the lakeside grill. Sold saws, some splitters, some climbing gear, and wood stoves/furnaces. You won’t be disappointed Wishlist
Fwiw I haven’t seen Bryan in there in awhile. I’ve had better interactions with him as well. The new guys in there are pretty clueless.
As the business grew and he bought the place next door, he definitely seemed more spread thin. I guess sometimes typical but unfortunate symptom of an expanding business.
Thanks In the Pines for the heads up on this saw . I spoke to the seller the day you posted it . Guess he really wanted to sell it , got it today for a deal that was way to hard to pass up . The saw is exactly as he described , brand new . Very impressed with this saw . Cut a little hickory and oak . Even with the green chain it cut way better then I expected. Way lighter then the 460 ! Next stop is getting it ported .
I bought a 261C last month, 18” bar. The dealer put a yellow chain on it for me. I also bought a second yellow chain.
It definitely wouldn’t be the deciding factor if I bought a saw or not, Stihl usually mounts a low kickback chain on even the small pro saws just because they don’t know the experience level of the buyer. Plus it usually being semi chisel they hold up a bit better in dirty wood.
The saw came with 3 new chains . 2 of them are still in the box . I’ll probably keep them . There is a dealer not to far from me , about 20 minutes , that always during February does buy 2 stihl chains get 1 free . You can mix and match too . Maybe I’ll grab a couple yellow label 261 and a chain for the 460 .
Both my 201 and 241 came with full chisel picco green label. If there is a cutting difference between it and the Picco Super yellow label it's minimal. You can even bore cut with it without issues.
261 is a perfect choice for what you describe. My go to saw. EDIT: i see youve purchased one. Congrats. You wont be disappointed.
With the little oak and hickory I cut yesterday I was very impressed . Saw has a nice “ bark “ to it as well . Still want to get it ported , need to research on who to send it to .
