7/71 wind is whipping with a snow squall blowing through. Stove is packed with black locust at the moment, with more of that and some hickory on deck for tomorrow morning. I broke down and ran an extension cord out to the chicken coop with a heat lamp to keep the birds a little more comfortable. If not for the wind, I wouldn’t be too worried.
-15/71 and lots of wind. Burning down coals with pine. SBH and elm for the overnight. Furnace hasn't come on all day but probably will tonight.
oak and hickory, 4 and 70 plus in. Wind is whippin, we are toasty. Will keep the place warm this evening, and then stove tetris for the overnight. I'll turn in early, and be up early to reload the stove in the morning. I am really tempted to nip out to the Ash Score and cut a log or two tomorrow morning. And then split them up. Just to see what it's like doing so in single digits...
Forgot to add the wind chill temps we had were -30 to -40. That made for a brisk walk to the mailbox!!
Just took a 200' walk (@-16) out to the generator building to check that my block heater is working. I really haven't used it before. All is good and I'll sleep well.
Haven't checked on my generator but then again ran it for a couples days due to the storm a couple weeks ago. Now my chickens are another story as they are out in the coop without any heat as it is too far from any source of electric.
Finally got the ground to freeze! Should be able to get something wood related accomplished this weekend. Sunday is predicted to be @ 50f. So makin hay it will be. Mission control, going with throttle up. Bottom right round is mulberry, rest is chestnut oak. 74 in.
Yup. These are some thick, heavy duty socks. And the Wood Gun got them hot quick! My son’s old 1980 Dodge Ram doesn’t like this cold. Didn’t want to start today. So ended up out and in a good part of the day trying to charge battery in place, jump it, boost it with booster. No luck. Yanked battery out and brought it inside detached garage that is hovering at 48-50. Charged it in there. That did it. We went out tonight and put it back in and got it going. Then took it for a ride to get it warmed up. Topped off tires with air, then parked it in same garage for the overnight. Supposed to go to -25ish by 7am. Right now it’s -19 and I have Elm and Ash keeping the boiler up to temperature.
17 below now. The pellet stove carried the load while we stocked up on food for the next couple of weeks, it's an hour and a half round trip to the nearest Market Basket. Now we're home and the wood stove is going. I'm going to keep both running overnight to play it safe, open doors under sinks, leave some sink water trickling.
A trickle charger (battery tender) 2 @ 25 watt heating pads ( engine oil pan and trans oil pan) and a short 3 plug pigtail plug in when needed will insure that truck starts.
-3 outside here. 77 inside. Up to load the stove and back to bed for a couple hours. Furnace hasn’t run all night. No complaints with that
-19/70 lots of wind. Furnace kicks on now and then which is ok in these conditions. Elm, hard maple this morning
Woke up at the M-F time, which was not in my plan today. Reached over grabbed my EMS beanie off the nightstand and contemplated life, the universe, and everything for a few. out of bed. I had to look 2x, yup -30Fs. 10* colder than accuweather or weather channel say it is. 64* 8 feet from the stove. Maple, Maple, and Maple and coffee.
oak all around, keeping the Jotul 500 @ 500*+. Enjoying being up early (0330) and keeping an eye on things, soaking up the heat, hot chocolate. -11 @ 0318, still the same 0515. Furnace has not run yet! All the hard work pays off now. Stay warm and safe if'n yall go out in it. I might be tempted to nip out to the cut for a little saw action later . . . just to say I did.
