Another reason to drink gin. Beer freezes at about 28 degrees whereas gin doesn't until around -17.

They've already hit a windchill of -103 at the observatory and that's during the day. Will be interesting to see what happens after the sun goes down and the winds really get cranking (they've only had a max wind gust of 127 so far).

LOL. I know my house is already creaking and rocking and I'm 12 miles away. I can only imagine what it's like at the observatory. I heard they're having difficulties keeping the doors closed and sealed and snow is blowing in. No rescue possible if things go sideways.

I expect they'll perform the "cup of boiling water into the air" trick. Most news stations will pick it up and show it.

Not sure they're going to do much outside for the next 24 hours. They did the 'spaghetti' trick last winter. That was a good one.

I don’t know what beer you’re drinking but my experience is more like mid to upper teens

    Keep your water trickling…

If you’ve got no snow cover and these temps, this is when water mains pop and freeze.

that frost will be driven deep into the ground.

I agree, we never had problems with beer freezing that I can remember.

Wow. The lowest I saw was 109 on their live feed. It'll be interesting to see what the final numbers are (once they thaw out up there). Regardless, it was cold! They had to change the chart on their website yesterday evening because it only used to go to -100 for the windchill. They added in two new graph points just for this storm (-105 and -110).

It’s a bad day when your beer freezes on an icefishing trip. We brought coolers to keep the beer from freezing!

Is that considered drinking warm beer?

Could be, it’s awful depressing when you pop the top and a volcano of ice comes out!
