It has been used at a summer camp. Maintenance wasn't the highest priority. The filter box was totally covered with grass clippings. Definitely run for a while without a filter.

Hey Mike,(if that is your real name). Just stopping in to say hello and goodluck with the build. I'll be following along with curiosity. I think you are on to something with those golf course machines. Did they guy show any remorse once you showed him the engine was run without an air filter? Maybe he could have been low balled at that point? It always amazes me that that stuff can happen. How much did you get for the old splitter, if you don't mind me asking?

The guy was a bit of a blow hard... If I didn't take it he had other people lined up to buy it that afternoon... But he just lowered the price by $100 today. He really seemed to need the money I could probably low ball and get it for 600. I had offered him 8 over the phone if everything checked out.

But I'm beginning to think it's not worth it for me right now. Since I sold my splitter (for $2300) I need to get something built by spring at the latest, sooner the better. With my schedule I don't want to take the time to figure out how to adapt everything and get it built/running. Money wise it wouldn't be too bad if I got a reel mower to start with. Time wise I could see it taking way too long... Much easier to be able to order what I need from a catalog and now it's going to fit and work.

The other downside of building off an old reel mower is if something like a wheel motor breaks down I'd be stuck with an expensive repair.

I'll probably look for the likes of an old IH cub or ford lgt to just leave hooked to the splitter.

Besides the NSA and maybe my internet service provider you are the only one who could put a face to "Mike from Maine." :zip:

There is no reason to be embarrassed of your real name. Mike Michaelson is a great name.
