Looks like a great day, BB & B. Did you happen to check the moisture content of that big fella? Just curious after it's been down a couple of years.

Makes it so much better. Safer and an extra set of hands especially with the big stuff. Not to mention a little goofing off and plenty of laughs

No Patrick I did not check it. No lack of moisture , especially what was in contact with the ground. The few pieces off the ground were slightly drier and lighter but not much. It will be a couple years minimum before it is ready to burn.

It was soaked. Couple spots where the bark was long off you could feel the difference in weight. Any oak doesnt dry much in round form. At least it'll be bark free and dry faster for him.

Nope. Im not a fan of the long drying time involved. Thats why you seldom see me take oak.

I have access to a boatload of standing dead white oak should i want to take some. I had thought of just taking the clean schmutz free heartwood. I have a customer who i sell a couple face cords to. He loves the cleanliness factor.

That’s kind and generous of you. Dead oak makes the best splits ime. It would be tough for me not to keep a little. I suppose I regard it as highly as you do BL. :salute:

    Nice work guys!

I too love how oak splits.

I'm not as much of a fan of how red oak smells though. At work I was walking to check out sick of a part to see if our inventory number was correct. I walked past a pallet rack and I got that fresh red oak doody smell. Yep, right there, a red oak pally that was extra stinky.

I don't dislike the smell enough to not take any red oak though.;)

This one wasnt that "fragrant". Having been around fresh cut red oak my whole life i dont mind the smell. Ive cut some pin oaks that are rather pungent though.

I’ve hoarded and burnt lots of red oak. Only once did I smell putrid and unpleasant. That turned out to be near rotten center section. Everyone that’s ever helped me split it also likes the smell.

I did manage to get trailer unloaded yesterday
Every time I walked by it I could hear the poor springs moaning in pain.
Time to get splitting and stacking now. 93C63C67-5F69-47B8-A93C-B7222A7AD48C.jpeg

Nice job buddy. Some gorgeous splits there. Now if the ground would stay frozen or did you move it already? Gotta get the rest this week
