Thaks! The weather was great, glad I got all of it yesterday, its pouring today. I haven't burned much red oak but that's going to change.
National. 20 bucks, dead and down, 5 cord per year limit, no motorized equipment off road. Cannot sell the wood. Its a good deal albeit a lot of work. I see a lot of people on here on flat ground pulling right up to a tree toss right into the pickup. Free scrounges have been few and far between this has been keeping me in wood nicely.
If you don't get caught yes. My take is it only takes a few to ruin a good thing for many. Its slow and difficult to manually bring them to the truck but its well within the bounds of the contract.
I’m on the hunt again, driving around looking for dead and down wood. Had some good luck this afternoon. I’m regretting not bringing the dump bed. I’ve driven for an hour before and ended up empty handed. Not today. I’m going to save this read oak for another day. I’m going to need more chains and the dump bed. Gotta be 30” + across. I thought about settling on this tree. Decided I’d go down the road a little further. This is the Red oak I settled on. It checks all the boxes, uphill from the truck, not too big and hardwood. I brought my good gloves. Tim TurboDiesel told me these were worn out at Backwoods Savage gtg. There still some life left in them. They remind me of MAF143 blue windbreaker There was a cherry tree under the oak. Since it was close to the road I decided to finish the truck load with cherry. Chit ton left. I’m going to hitch up the dump bed and go back this week. I could not for the life of me find my wedge I used until I was just about to leave.
Tim it’s a Chrysler product. There’s essentially nothing that can break on it. lol. I don’t need new gloves, these are just hitting their stride.
Back at it. Cherry and red oak. Brought the dump bed, stacking in the truck is a pain and so is unloading by hand. I got stopped by the forest service. Asked if I have a permit. Yes I do. Guy was alright about it, got right back to it. This is all I got from the first spot. Using a trailer is so much nicer than just the truck. I was tossing rounds into the truck without a worry that I’ll bash the sides of my truck. It is crazy dry, somebody passed me on the way to the next spot. I just pulled over and let the dust settle. We need some rain. Next spot the wood was down hill from the truck but I needed more wood in the trailer. I cut one of the large limbs and called it. The rest of this tree is crawling with poison ivy. No thanks. Decent haul. I have one more big red oak that I know of to cut on.
I love my blue hoodies... I have several of them dating back to the 90's. They just keep on keepin' me warm... No sense tearing up a new one out in the woods. Great thread!!! I know what you're saying about rain. We can use some up this way also. I've been slacking off this last couple weeks, our son is visiting from California and We've been spending time with him. Made a big batch of that beef jerky cuz that's one of his favorites (me too).
