I’ll get it started! Some wings we made tonight. Cooked at 380F for 24 minutes, flipped half way through. Sauce was Frank’s Red Hot mixed with some melted butter.
How close to being "deep fried" is the food? I'd love to have an easy way to have fried chicken or taters. The little deep friers look nice but I'd imagine that it's near and hour just to get the oil hot. Not exactly convenient.
We have a medium size air fryer. I like it for doing a batch of fries or onion rings. I hear people at work talk like they do meals in them but they must have large ones or multiple fryers, because I don't see how for a family a person could have enough done at once to feed say 4/5 people without everyone having to do it in shifts.
The wings were spot on for being fried. Very crispy exterior, but not greasy at all. A decent amount of the fat gets rendered out during the cooking. It works great for frozen fries. Tastes as good or better than what you get at fast food places. We also make a pretty darn good chicken sandwhich that rivals Chick-Fil-A using breaded chicken filets from Aldi. My wife also uses it for baked potatoes. It’s great in the summer for smaller items because you don’t have to fire up the big oven.
I've been trying to talk the wife into one but shes skepy. I might just have to spend some saw money and get one.
Mine too. We've had a "convection" oven for 15 years and she doesn't use the convection feature. (It'll throw off her cooking times. We don't really have the real estate on the counter for one to live there full time.
That's what I think is the main thing for her.... countertop space. We don't have an over abundance of it.
We love ours as well. If you get one, do yourself a favor and get a large one because you WILL end up wanting entire meals cooked in it.
We have one, don't use it as often as we should... We store ours up on top of a cabinet in the laundry room. I think the style of fryer makes a huge difference. Used to have the round basket type: it was good for fries and such, but doing chicken or things like that had to do multiple batches. It dies, and we replaced it with a toaster style. I feel this style gives more options for amount of food, and how it needs to be done, ie solid sheet pan, standard oven type rack or woven basket. This one also has all kinds of options, like reheat, toast, bake, air fry etc... I will say, it is the best way to reheat something like egg rolls, and great for reheating pizza.
I’ve been cooking with one for about 10 years. Just replaced the original one a few years ago. Still use the old one occasionally. One thing I like to cook that can’t get any easier is sweet potatoes. Slice in half and lay them On the rack and cook. The top will turn leather like, just peel it off and eat. Viola!! Frozen Jacks pizza cook pretty good in them too. French fries, tater tots, all that stuff that’s bad for ya! I like chicken wings cooked in it with nothing but salt. The skin gets good and crispy. Then just dip them in your favorite sauce. Ranch for me. You can make boiled eggs in them too. No water needed.
Homemade Spring Rolls. There’s a young lady who works in my wife’s office and her family is from Vietnam. She made us a whole bunch of these awhile back. We portioned, vac sealed, and froze them. I think this was the last package unfortunately. They are delicious!
Must be just like "lumpia" ?? Philippine made and looks about the same. Could ever get enough of those whenever I saw them. (Navy days)
Cool. Our oven has a built in air fryer function. I use it to make fried chicken. It’s not like the real stuff but pretty darn close and really tasty. I also like roasting stuff like broccoli. haven’t used a countertop version.
