This is off memory only ,but i think this is what he did on his bikesaw chain ..............More sharpie art lol ,puts the inside corner out of the way of the raker
I wouldn't stand a chance in a race, but I love seeing these pics, watching the videos, and hearing ya'll talk about them. I need to get some square files. . What's a good one? I have some square chain already, but no files to keep them that way. They will soon be round, if I don't get some files. Thanks
I noticed Mike & Matt's chains look like the are down to the last 1/4-1/3 of the cutter. Is this the normal for race chains? If I were to play around with a chain for this intriguing event, I will have to to get one just for it so would I be better off looking of a chain mostly used up?
The cutters are small, but many are not used back. rather, they have just had the back side removed. Some are well used though. I like a pretty fresh cutter myself..
Dex, Matt suggested the 6 sided "Save Edge Double beveled Chisel File." I got mine from Tree Stuff. The shipping was the same for a dozen as for one so you can guess how many I bought.
I know you guys are seasoned square filers...is it worth it to buy the granberg jig..or just learn to hand file?
Been a long time since I've had any seat time in your kind of toys. That would be a great day for sure!
It takes mods to get the granberg to work. I don't remember the details about it though. I prefer a tooth back to the rivet. Any shorter and it can rock back too far and pull out of the bar groove more and cause more friction.
Many have seen these before. Old Oregon guide modified. You can see were I Have been filling the chain clamp on the file and just the edge of the tie straps, it also helped setting the jig on the vise and keeping it from wanting to move on the bar. Also adjust the chain as tight as you can get it and still roll it.
