I still think you work harder with the way you have to cut and load on site, unload by hand, split, move around, etc.
37 trees 5-6 cord.. seems low to me.. Unless you meant 5 dump trailers great score! Lil piney helping
Good point. Playing musical firewood can get taxing sometimes. I wanna come down someday and play king of the mountain on your windrows! Maybe make one of my own there first!
Alot of the trees are only 4-8"dia so I'm figuring low on the cord count. Yea lil piney #2 loves working in the wood yard and working with chainsaws. Kid's gonna be able to sharpen a chain by the time he's 5! [/QUOTE]
Nice score! Some great BTUs there. My BIL is also building a pole barn. I went over there one day and he had a huge fire going with a big pile of logs. I said what's that? He said his friend, who did the excavating work said it was all junk wood. I was like . I said black cherry, hackberry, sassafrass and dead ash, is NOT junk. His friend only burns oak or BL. I was able to save some logs from the burn pile. I'll show him this thread and say, see this is what you do!
Sun was out this morning so I couldn’t resist the urge despite the 6 inches of snow we got the other day. Tried to finish busting down this pile of logs so when I go to split I don’t have to cut too. Came close to finishing but the chains had had enough! Lots of noodling
Split a load this morning From the stuff I cut up the other day. Must have near a load left once I cut up the rest of it. This is what’s left:
It’s a well built machine. My father in law and I bought it together at least 10 years ago. We’ve just done maintenance on it. Nothings ever broken on it besides a weld that joins the hydraulic tank to a piece of angle that bolts to the frame to hold the tank in place. Only complaint with the splitter is that it is a bit low for my height. I find I have to bend over slightly when manipulating rounds and grabbing splits. It owes me nothing. Would I buy another one today? Probably not. First reason is they have changed the design and look of their splitters quite a bit, and I don’t care for the new ones as much. Secondly, there are a lot of cool splitters out there, and I’d wanna try something new and different. If I were to get something else, it would probably be an addition, not a replacement Possibly a supersplit!
