Can a saw ported by a well known builder be verified other than a sticker and the sellers word? Does it have paperwork too? Do builders keep records of the saws they've modified?

One for sale locally and it has my interest.

Lots of them will stamp or grind their initials or saw shop letters in top of cylinder they ported.

mike bayerl Is there any chance you would be able to snap a pic of marks on the cylinder of one of your Treemonkey saws?

Im an engine builder by trade ; not saws but automobiles and it isn't much different.

Every engine I do has a folder. In that folder are build sheets , any notes and usually the tags from the ends of the boxes for any parts I used for the build.
This way I know exactly what was done for each build including my time on an hour sheet.

Back at the end of last year I had a call from someone I did an engine for about 20 years ago and he had some questions.
I was able to go back to that folder and find exactly what I needed to answer his questions about the build.

Too much information in a folder is better than not having the information in the future if you need it.
There is my OCD kicking in once again.

Nothing other than a sticker. I can usually chase the timeline/customer down and confirm whether or not it’s one of mine.

I really appreciated all the pics that you sent while you were modifying my saw. Yes, there’s the sticker indicating work had been done, but one pull on that cord sure did show something had been done too!:saw:

Does Scott mark his cylinders in any way? Basically what we have here is someone unfamiliar to the ported saw world/community wanting to be able to confirm it was actually Treemonkey that modified the saw.

I don’t think so. But like me, a picture of the exhaust port cleaned up without any carbon on it and the muffler mod and the builder can probably tell if he did it or not

Any pictures of it? If it’s by tree monkey, I can probably confirm it just by looking at the muffler

Not to be a duck but......
In the back of my head I keep thinking it's a BAD idea for builders to put ANY markings on a saw.
Essentially they are offering a emissions delete company mostly off the books.
Someday the hammer will drop, same as in the diesel community.
So many search engines to bring up evidence.
THEY could even be a member....

There is a very well known saw porter that had or has a contract building performance saws for the US Forest service. They had tried some other builders before him and they didn't hold up.

Are you saying the US forest service was looking to increase the size of their carbon footprint?
