Stopped into a pawn shop, listed at $399.00 Asked him if I could take it out and start it. Started easily, pulled the muffler, looks clean, has good compression. Tossed $150.00 on the counter and walked out with it. Has a 24inch bar How did I do? Need to touch up the chain before I cut with it. Ill report back on how it feels.
You did much better than the $400 they wanted. By any chance did you burn your hands when you started it? haha
Lots of people would gladly paid 299 for it. OBTW many folks would rather have a ported 359 than a 357XP!
I love my 359. It's my go to saw for most stuff. I paid $200 for it used with a 20" so i'd say you got a darn good deal.
Upon looking at the chain closer for a sharpening someone used the wrong size file on it. Too small. Dont know if I can save it, Ill try but chains are cheap.
Love my 359...first Husky I've ever had..took a little while to learn how it likes to start (my Stihl always starts on the 5th pull when cold)...plenty of power with no mods (yet..I'm learning from you guys!) and best of all mine was given to me by my BIL!!!!
For that price!! You stole it!! Congrats on the score! That bar looks new too! If it's original to the saw? You have an awesome low hour machine As for the chain? It could probably be salvaged. There looks to be about 50% or better of the cutter. The chain is a safety chain, but will still cut wood.
Yea , I went out and cut a few smaller logs to get the feel for the saw, the chain needs work for sure, I did a light touch up, not enough. It isnt spitting out chips, but a mix of chips and sawdust... with too much sawdust. Maybe a 18 or 20 inch bar with full chisel and a new 24" chain with full chisel skip tooth. Thoughts anyone?
18" for small stuff and keep the 24" with skip for the bigger stuff. Sounds like a killer combo!! But nothing wrong with a 20" for all around cutting. But since you already have a big bar? The smaller bar 16" or 18" may be a better option? By better, I mean faster
I Also have a very old Poulan 306a Mfgd for Sears(Craftsman Brand) with a 14" Bar, So Maybe the 18 full chisel and a 24 skip tooth. The muffler will have the cat destroyed(assuming mine has a cat) and an extra port added ASAP along with a retune on the carb. The Muffler is a bit rusted and needs a coat of hi temp paint as well. I also need the tool(grease injector) for the bar and for the clutch..... things to do things to do.
I don't see E-Tech or a green fuel cap on your saw. Pretty sure that means you don't have the cat muffler.
