Loading beech again, and covered the wood in the shed. Snow coming in the wee hours and into daylight. Staying in the low thirties.
Plan to load it well before bed, so I won’t be out in it first thing tomorrow

The elm and sugar maple I was burning earlier today has been replaced with black locust. One thing about burning BL is it’s great to throw on a deep coal bed, but trying to get a fire going in a cold stove with it is just about futile. :picard: It’s 32 now but only dropping into the high 20s overnight.

39 and the tree frogs are still chirping. They are nearing full frenzy, so they may stick it out to get some action. Only supposed to drop a few more degrees before rain moves in.

We were forecasted to be in the single digits last night but it only got down to 16. That's fine with me.

Upper 20's for highs for the next 5 days at least. That's fine too.

Well, I've avoided this thread for a few weeks so as not to be the whiny complainer, but it ain't looking good here. Been pretty consistent mid 30's cloudy and or rain. No frost, mushy ground and damp. Something like 9% possible sunshine so far in January. Just dropped to 31F with clouds. Cherry and Maple in the boiler.

Pretty much similar here too. Sunshine is in short supply and the ground remains soft.

33/74 more rock oak. Pulling all the splits of mulberry and setting them aside for the smoker.

Right now, you don't need high BTU wood. I find that I keep passing over my high BTU stuff, to burn lower BTU wood, so that I don't get the house too warm. At least that's how it's been the last few winters,.

Don't see that as complaining, just staying comfortable.

Hedge is the same way... From a cold stove its a long hard start up... Usually consisting of lighter wood carrying the starting power...

Yep... I had to get out just at the break of light yesterday to get wood up to the house while we still had the frost covered ground... By the time I got done restocking it started to get greasy on top...

    28. Just loaded the Wood Gun up with Spruce.

Going to 35 today. I’ll take it. I need to get our sidewalks cleaned down bare today. We received a mess of a mix of rain/sleet/snow the other day and it was enough to be a pain but not really enough to plow and shovel it all. Probably 2-3” of the stuff.

I live in an area where we don't get much snow but it is still hard to believe that I don't need to shove any snow around this season. It is snowing now but less than an inch expected. It almost looks strange out there to see white ground and snow on the trees. If this keeps up we could have a record year for lack of snow.
