I mix my own. I use non-ethanol that I need to drive 4hrs, round trip, to get. I don't go through alot of it. I use Star Tron stabilizer.
I use the 4 stroke tru fuel in my snowblower since I bought it and it always starts never any issues with it
I'm out in the middle of nowhere Kansas. No Sunoco anywhere around me that I know of. I may see what 5 gallon cans of just the gas is, Tru Fuel, and start mixing my own. I'm also going to try PRI-G, instead of Stabil, in my gas for my mowers. See if it don't work better.
I'm going to price it at my Napa, where I get my 40:1 and see what it runs. If it's cheaper than the mix, I may just start buying it and mix my own gas for saws. Then I'll have good gas for my saws, generator and mowers as well.
PRI-G claims 10 year fuel life if you dose that fuel yearly using their recommended amount per gallon. I've not tried that yet but I'm fixing to fill a gallon metal can and do that long term test. Purely out of curiosity. Now, my generator gets filled with fresh E-Free fuel every spring that is treated with PRI-G. I drain the year old fuel out and run it in the mowers. Smells like it was just purchased and not discolored. I do run the generator every few months year around to exercise it.
We also have a McCormick gas station that carrys Sunco canned fuel in the 5 gallon cans. Not sure if those are out your way.
I'm the same way. I like to test stuff to fill in my curiosity. Edit: PRI requires a lot less than Stabil. Stabil calls for 1 oz for every 2.5 gallons, and that's the strength I used with 87 octane E free gas, when it only lasted 8 months. I'm going to buy some of the PRI too.
I've been using true fuel 50:1 for a while now. Used 5 110 Oz cans. Saws run great on this stuff. No problems. And it smells good too!
I had a similar experience with true fuel. Gen wouldn’t start. I drained it, put in pump gas and it fired right up.
the smelly red stabil is worthless. I use the blue, Marine variety. Just mixed up the gallon of Trufuel and a bottle of Stihl pre mix. Primed the Echo, 2 pulls and it fired right up. The Trufeul has a very different smell (exhaust) too. Interestingly, the Echo has a Cat in the muffler. I think I need to make that vanish. I'll probably drain my other saws and put it in as well. Now if I can just get it on sale again...
The red Stabil is all I've used. Years ago, I never noticed any issue, so I don't know. I know I'm going to look into Tru Fuel 4 stroke gas and PRI-G and I'm going to look into the Stabil marine type too. Personally, I like the smell. Then again I like Stihl's canned gas smell too and a lot of people can't stand it. I hope you can find it for that price too. That's about what I used to pay for the mix, but it jumped about 5 bucks a gallon. And yes, delete the cat.
I downl0aded the Echo parts and shop manual from their site and was surprised when I saw it had a cat in the muff. That is leaving no matter what.
I've used it, at least the premixed stuff. They had to have changed the formula because my friend with the Bobcat toolcat uses trufuel in his saws. Now the stuff stinks. It has a real acrid smell, and it she's horrible. I need to go upwind from it after it's been burnt in the saws. It really smells that bad. Maybe it's just the oil that's premixed and your gallon won't smell? One can only hope.
Two of those cans fit perfectly in a small repurposed cardboard box, and the scwrench fits in between. I think it's a Corbett canyon wine box. yooperdave .lol. not mine, I don't drink that crap. The box works perfectly for my uses and fits in my 5gallon cutting bucket with a bucket boss on it. If I run through those 2 cans, that's enough cutting for a while.
I love the smell of amsoil sabre oil premixed in my saws,( e10 pump gas) Smells like castor oil race gas with the Sabre mix. But the trufuel... Yuck. It stinks. I'd rather use Lucas 2stroke oil, as while that doesn't smell great, it at least isn't horrible.
My dolkita 6421 has a cat in the muffler too. You'd never know it because it's a screamer, much louder than any of the stihls I've used. I can only imagine it will get even louder when I eventually muffler mod and de-cat it.
