Headed down the road to fort Wayne and saw a Indot truck, tons of cones set out they were cutting up a tree and just as I passed I noticed neatly cut and stacked rounds in the truck bed. Looked like ash! I'd put money on that being a hoarder! He probably threw down to get that assignment!
I was on the south side of Fort Wayne last night. No scrounges in the dark. Could've seen if there was any that wouldn't fit in his truck?
He’s also paid hourly… On a state wage. surprised it wasn’t stacked in the right of way first and then restacked next to the trailer and then onto the trailer
Around these parts state highway workers are forbidden from taking wood home from the right of way, on the clock or not. They aren't to benefit from their job except for their wages and benefits. Most aren't willing to risk their pension or health insurance for some wood. If they haul it away its dumped and nobody gets it. Now those county and township boys are a whole different story.
I should edit. Didn't actually see any name on the truck, unless they were a really prepared hoarder!
Not a place I choose to go if avoidable. I went to a basketball game at Homestead high school. Turned off 30 at county line road heading south so I probably missed it. Too far from home to scrounge on a work night anyway.
Highway work around here consists of 9 guys leaning against a shovel watching the 10th guy work. Or putting out a mile of cones shutting down 2 lanes in order to scrape bubble gum out of the 3rd lane.
You must live in the wealthy area...around here they've had to cut back to 7 man crews for gum removal
