This was mentioned in a recent thread and this question popped into my mind. If the oiler is turned all the way up (on saws with this feature) will this cause the saw to leak bar oil in storage?

it's not supposed to from my understanding. A husq will dribble though if you look at it wrong.

Some of my Stihls do it. Havent really observed which ones and if the oiler is turned all the way up or not.

Haven’t touched the oiler. Shoot, I haven’t even put a gallon of gas through it yet.

it’s already leaving spots on the floor.

I don't think my stihl can be adjusted and I haven't used it in so long I don't recall if it ever did.
My husqs are not that bad, they really don't dribble but I leave a rag under them anyway.

I've found where the adjuster screw is the source of a leak sometimes.

Other times the tank vent doesn't vent. Once you run the saw and get everything good and hot, pressure builds inside the oil tank. Once you shut it off and it cools, there's still pressure inside the tank pushing bar oil out?

If that's true though the pump should create a vacuum inside the tank and then bar oil shouldn't leak??

Just thinking out loud here. :loco:

From time to time all saws seem to leak bar oil some just a spot I have seen some need a diaper a lot of the homeowner saws with the plastic oil pumps seem to be the worst (They are the ones that come in the shop in the plastic cases with the lake of bar oil in the bottom ) it seems some models are more prone to leaking than others within a brand but I do not think one brand of saw is any worse than the other except the cheap poulans they seem to be the worst JB

Not any more than an adjustable oiler set all the way down low !

But what it will do is cause the saw to possibly drip more after it's run and just set down just due to more oil being slung into the clutch cover and running down the bar sometimes as well.

All my saws will leave a puddle of residual bar oil from it naturally flowing off the saw but once it stops that they are done. I've had saws in the past that were pulse driven and they pressurized the oil tank. I had to crack the cap to relieve any pressure and leave it cracked while setting. Temperature fluctuations would cause more leaking.

Maybe these would help the leakers....

They make them for Husqvarna too...

Echo is like Dodge in a Ford / Chevy fan boy argument. They don't even enter the picture.

Not sure but it would be funny as heck to see a guy at a GTG with a diaper on a saw.

Chainsaws leaking bar oil are a fact of life and I do not even worry about it anymore. I put a piece of cardboard under them.

There is definitely that lol. I've owned several vehicles from all the big three. Cars and trucks. All my saying.
